When they hired him he was already under a NCAA cloud, which was surprising since Indiana under Bobby Knight prided themselves on following the rules, good academics, etc. Now they have a sleezeball in Kelvin Sampson and they seem to be spirialing downward toward NCAA probation.

Sounds like big problems in Bloomington doesn't it? Maybe IU can lure Bobby Knight out of retirement.

    It'll never happen.

This is embarrassing to the state of Indiana. I feel that the Sampson and the AD who hired him need to go. I don't care how well the team is playing under him. His conduct has stained the state's clean reputation.

If the allegations prove to be true, he's got to go.....

Regardless of what happens here, I always feel sorry for the schools involved, for they are the ones penalized, not the coaches or players who committed the infractions.

The NCAA needs to address these situations in a more positive manner, but it never seems to materialize.

It seems to me that the standard coaches contract should have monetary damages if he violates NCAA rules, a sliding scale of some sort. Maybe that will keep coaches from doing crap like this. In Sampsons case since he was already a convicted rules violator when he came to IU, it is doubly bad that he just kept breaking the same rules. I guess in his mind it was if you aren't cheatin' you aren't trying hard enough. Plus for cheating at OU his punishment was a better job for more money at IU.

Is anyone surprised? I can't believe he was allowed to walk away from the OU situation without even a slap on the wrist.
The guy is scum, and should NEVER work at a Div 1 school again.

They are not going to put up with that crap....he was busted earlier at IU and a material amount of his compensation was withheld and one would expect that he and the University and Athletic Dept leaders had a come to Jesus session......it would appear that he nuked his second chance. He's done.

I wonder if they will do what you guys did with O'Brien and take themselves out of the post-season this year?

I'm sure they will proceed carefully, given that Jim O'Brien successfully sued Ohio State for wrongfull termination.

That is true...however, his success was more a function of a very, very poorly crafted contract on our part than any true merits of his situation.....no doubt, every athletic department/university counsel in the country went to school on our stupidity!

That said, I always have been and will continue to be a big supporter of OB as I believe the circumstances in his case were unusual. The NCAA has recently lifted his ban from coaching and hope we see him in a good job soon.

I realize that few outside of Indiana are interested in the details of the saga, but if you're bored you can read this relatively brief text from the university president's press conference:

I have a problem with that statement. What is he really saying? If they were doing a good job would these allegations even be on the table? Did IU self report Sampson to the NCAA?

I agree, Terry. This is a new president who was not there when Sampson was hired. He has a British or Australian accent, which is neither here nor there. I'm betting that Sampson will be gone sooner rather than later, and I'll be interested in seeing what happens to the AD if anything.

    Sid,

Anyone on the radar that you would like to see at Indiana?

Looks like Sampson will be gone soon, but I hope the University does not penalize this years squad in the NCAA Tournament.

I read some place that asst Dan Dakich is untouched by the scandal and that he would be a good choice to finish the season as the HC.

Long term Jim Rhome was touting Kevin Stallings of Vanderbilt as a perfect fit for IU, only problem is that he is apparently a Purdue Alum and wheter or not IU could hire a Purdue guy is the issue.
