Wed is the day! I was listening to Rhome last Friday and he said that in poker terms Clemens is all in, he has bet the farm, etc. I'd have to agree, even his lawyer is all-in.

The kicker today is that Andy Petittes depo has supposedly leaked and he supports every thing that McNamee has said. That can't be good.

It might be that they can never prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Clemens did in fact do steroids, but it seems like he could be headed for a perjury charge. I still want to believe Roger though!

I'm sitting here watching the testimony for a few minutes right now. Roger just made his statement and McNamee is making his now.

One of them is lying because they just made contradicting statements, one of them is not telling the truth.

McNamee is just getting eviscerated by the Rep Burton of the committee....someone is lying for certain. It is also certain that McNamee has admitted lying on numerous occasions. I don't know how this thing is going to shake out but McNamee is really coming off as a sleazeball at least during this portion of the proceedings....

This is clearly divided along party lines... the dems are killing Clemens and the GOP is targeting McNamee and without exception.

McNamee is slimy as is Clemens. To me, the tie breaker is Pettitte's testimony. I'm convinced Clemens used this crap and that he has perjured himself.

but on the things McNamee admitted to lying about were to media members and not government officials...and roger is stuttering and avoiding about everything and his counsel continuously si trying to jump in and save him...what i have found interesting is the republicans are hammering McNamee and the Democrats are hammering Clemens, it appears that the Republicans are still in awe at the fact that it is "Roger Clemens" in the room...mainly because they continuously refer to his fame.

Correct.....McNamee has not admitted that he has commited perjury. He has admitted that many of his previous statements on the relevant subject matter have been false, misleading and outright lies.

What a horrendous day for the Republicans on this committee who clearly were there for the sole purpose of protecting Clemens. They humiliated themselves as political flacks.

    And I'm a Republican.

Krebsie, I didn't see them humiliate themselves any more than the Dem committee Chairman Waxman....his closing statement which amounted to an apology to admitted liar and purveyor of illegal substances McNamee and pi$$ing on Clemens was absolutely bizarre....even for a Dem.

Can you imagine being in the unenviable position of having to sell a jury on McNamee's credibility beyond a reasonable doubt in the face of his admitted lies?

So what's the next step? They have now heard from everybody, when do they issue a report? Other than the report being their view of what they heard, what power do they have to implement anything, punish anybody, etc? Is the only thing they can do is bring perjury charges against either McNamee or Clemens?

There is a very thin line between MLB and the WWE at the moment. Everything that has happened in the last 10-12 years is now highly questionable. You either clean up this game NOW or lose it forever.

McNamee is a liar and an opportunist. He admitted as much under oath today. Clemens flatly denied any wrongdoing whatsoever. He was vague throughout as to details and contradicted himself several times. What he and Bonds accomplishewd when most players are retired remains unexplained yet we all know what really happened. Clemens is guilty as charged as far as I care and you can throw multiple counts of perjury in for good measure. Nothing he accomplished means anything to me.

I know my opinion on this matter is going to probably be unpopular but I think the use of steroids and HGH is the best thing that ever happened to Major League Baseball. Allow me to explain. I do think that the use of such performance enhancers cheapens the accomplishments of the players and teams they played on and I'm not condoning their use here. However, when baseball was virtually dead in the mid-90s, performance enhancers gave us the fabled summer of '98 which, of course, will now forever be tarnished. Then when people quit talking about that summer and baseball seemed destined to fade to the back burner of America's interest, what happened? The use of illegal performance enhancers became an issue and guess what? The media and the public talk about baseball year round now. Baseball is always on our mind. Heck, for some unknown reason that I will never understand, it's at the forefront of our national government when we have a war in Iraq, an impending Recession, and a very important presidential campaign happening. Anyway, my point is there is constant interest in baseball now. Good or bad, it's still publicity. I, like most of you I'm sure, am tired of hearing about it. It's always on. Although the lasting effect this scandal has on baseball remains to be seen, baseball keeps setting attendance records in the present. Just my opinion.
