Two Georgia players arrested on alcohol related charges and jailed in two different incidents.

Must be more to this as it seems to happen every off season for the Dawgs!

    Two UGA football players jailed
    Pair suspended over alcohol-related charges

Athens -- The first clear signal the offseason has begun for Georgia football has arrived: Two Bulldogs football players were arrested and jailed early Sunday morning.

This marks the third straight offseason a Georgia player has been arrested in January or February.

University of Georgia police arrested cornerback Donavon Baldwin, 21, for improper driving and driving under the influence at 3:05 a.m. Sunday.

Fullback Fred Munzenmaier, 19, was arrested 34 minutes later by university police for underage possession of alcohol and being a pedestrian walking in the roadway.

Both were booked into Athens-Clarke County Jail and later released on bond -- $750 for Munzenmaier and $2,000 for Baldwin.

Georgia coach Mark Richt has suspended each of the players for at least the opening game against Georgia Southern. They also will have to perform community service and be subject to the university's judicial review process.

"They know better, and I'm disappointed in both of them," said Richt in a released statement. "They will have to pay a price, but it's unfortunate the rest of the team will also have to suffer for their poor judgment."

Baldwin, a junior from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., played in eight games primarily as a special teams player. He is expected to be a backup cornerback in 2008.

Munzenmaier, a sophomore from Norcross, played in nine games in 2007. He is expected to be a backup fullback in 2008.

    ================================================================

Seems there's a vote on the left hand side of this article asking if Richt will be able to prevent more incidents and over 80% think he will not be able to prevent them.

At this rate they may not be able to field a team next season!

I don't know Sid, let's see if CB has anything to enlighten us about this situation.

Such schadenfreude over college kids being arrested for alcohol-related incidents. My, my.

It happens. I don't think any college coach can absolutely prevent such occurrences. If anyone here thinks their coach can, speak up now.

I happen to agree with you 100% Rick, I was just copying Conerback's style a little back at him.

I just thought I would do it before Florida or Tennessee had a little incident that Tailback/Cornerback would come here and insinuate there was some deep dark thing being hidden.

A little barb at him if you would.

I got your intent. However, in doing so, haven't you leveled the playing field as it were?

I would hope that isn't true Rick as I think most people here understand my intent and know the point I was trying to make with Tailback.

However in deference to you I'll just let this one slip slide away.

I believe Richt has been pretty steady at punishing these kids appropriately, Am I right? I do admit that underage drinking is a problem that seems to happen quite often in Athens. Didn't Richt suspend a signed top recruit for a year or maybe less after multiple offenses? Multiple here means two. Pretty tough I would say. What I wouldn't say is would certain other coaches do the same?

Cornerback, just for the record I don't believe Georgia players get in trouble any more than players from other schools.

I also don't think that Richt is any stricter than most other coaches, suspended for the first game etc. I'm not saying he doesn't handle things well just that he's not stricter than certain other coaches.

    He's pretty much the same.
