From our sophomore class we lost two QB's, Zach Frazer( UConn ) and Demetrius Jones( Cincinnati ), TE Konrad Rueland(?) and OT Matt Carufel(Minnesota). They all left in season. Now add CB Munir Prince( probable to Missouri ) to that list

Now soph OT Bartley Webb may have to leave due to a chronic shoulder problem. They apparently have talked soph FB Luke Schmidt out of leaving as well as CB Rashon McNeil.

That really is one hell of a class!

I think we can recruit up to 50 next year 8)

Well we haven't been used to players leaving, but welcome to the new world. A lot of kids just don't stay if they don't see themselves as being starters. Prince is likely to have had to wait and take his chances that he would eventually start. Amazingly we have more talent at CB than we have had ain a long time, actual depth.

As far as Schmidt, I don't know what he is going to play in the future. Career special teamer? He's certainly not going to be a TB at ND, and with his size (height) I don't know if he is a FB even though that was what it was assumed that he would be at ND.

With Webb it's unfortuneate that he's injured and may never play, but that's football. He will be able to stay at ND if he wants and graduate, kids like him get moved to a different type of scholarship and don't count against the 85. I hope he stays and gets his degree.

If you look at Texas the attrition due to transfers and explusions is pretty high 4 or 5 a year, although I'm just guessing. I'll bet you'll find the same thing at other top programs.

Prince is going to Missouri, and I see that he is going to be a CB/S at that school. Interesting given all the hype about him comming out of HS as a Reggie Bush type of RB. Good luck to him. But I really don't think we'll miss him.

    Never...

<t>Was impressed with MP the times I saw the kid play which is disappointing considering the hype on him. Sorry it didn't work out.<br/>
George made a point on signing 50. Of couse that will never happen due to rules but one thing I would like to see CW and staff do is be involved with more guys to take the full compliment of 25. Seems like we are always scrambling for a couple of late ones like we look to be doing now. Not a problem this year with the quality of this class. As usual looks like we have no kicker which always amazes me no matter the head coach at ND.<br/>

Back to Missouri and Prince now that the five players are staying that is one loaded football team in th 12 North for 08.</t>

    well

<t>while the Webb thing just sucks, who were those other guys going to beat out?<br/>

This is also a fall out of the huge class ND signed that year. (28 I believe counting early enrolled students). We needed that number due to the crazy lack of depth left by the previous staff.</t>

I think the maximum that can be signed in any one year is 25. One way around that is to have early enrollment players who can count in either last years class or this years class.

The Gators are losing only one player going out early to the NFL, Derrick Harvey DE who is projected to be a first round choice. Cornelius Ingram TE was thought to be leaving but has decided to stay.

We also are losing several players to trasfer, Jarrad Fayson, Bo Williams and Chevorn Williams are running backs or wide recievers, and Waggner a Community College QB who came in last year but was injured are leaving. I think there might be others but do not have names on the tip of my keyboard right now.

    And ..

<t>If you can believe the news the Irish have offered Will Compton from Missouri a four star LB/Fullback that is committed to Nebraska but always loved ND. Good looking kid and I hope we pull it off.</t>

Mike Farrell said that Cyrus Gray is headed to ND, but i don't believe that myself...I don't believe much that Farrell says. I'd bet that he ends up at UF.

I'd like to get Compton and I'd like to be able to get Mike Martin who I think is going to visit but I'm not sure. The word is that he wanted to come to ND but that when Charlie got the commit from Omar Hunter they stopped recruiting him. The combo of new staff at UM and loss of Omar has opened up a possibilty even if it is slim. He might not be able to get past that we dropped him, only thing in our favor is that the people who recruited him at UM are gone.

But it would be a nice finish if we could get Gray, Martin and Compton. I'd like to get another OL like Kenneth Page but that ship seems to have sailed. Supposedly Kapron Lewis-Moore (A&M recruit) is going to visit but I'm not that high on him and it's a long shot. I think he's just trying to get some traveling in on other schools dollar.

No Gray has not visited, in fact I don't really know where he has actually visited...his recruitment has been very strange to me.
