If you believe some of the boards it appears that UM will be missing more than Henne, Hart and Long when they kick-off next season........ Referring to an interview on the Jim Rome show with Rich Rodriguez: [Rodriguez] said Arrington text-messaged him earlier in the day to say he was entering the NFL draft, and Manningham and Mallett didn't attend the first team meeting, held Monday. That was enough for Rodriguez, who said he didn't need to hear from Manningham that he was leaving for the NFL or that Mallett was transferring. In Mallett's case, Rodriguez said he is not interested in listening or waiting. "I don't care," Rodriguez said. "He's not playing for Michigan. I'm concerned with who's playing for Michigan."
I think it's a done deal on Pryor: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080109/SPORTS06/80109017/1048
Well there is certainly a lot of opportunity for Pryor at UM now that RR is there and the spread will be installed. I'm not familar with the talents of the qB's left on the UM roster but I doubt if any of them are Pat White clones. So Pryor could certainly be in a position to start as a freshman. The only problem that I see is that while freakishly talented ala' Vince Young he may not be ready to be the man at a Div1 program. Vince had a redshirt year followed by a year where he was sort of up and down, he showed flashes of his incredible talent but also made plenty of rookie mistakes. We had a Sr. QB who had waited behind Chris Simms to take some of the pressure off of him though. Also Vince played at the highest level of competition in Texas and Pryor played at the one of the lower levels of competition in PA. But on the other hand, Pat White started by midseason of his freshman year and by the time they got to the bowl game vs Georgia he was rocking and rolling. He and Slaton scorched the Dawgs, they had no idea what to do with the WVA offense. On the other hand, while he wouldn't start as a freshman at Ohio State, he would not be on a team that is rebuilding for another system. He would be on team with an established offense system that is not the WVU offense but can accomdate him like it did Troy Smith...and that seemed to work out pretty well for Troy. Seems like he can't lose, might be bumpier at UM but he'd be the man from the start, where as at OSU he'd probably redshirt and then compete for the job as a soph. He might be just as successful at OSU and it might go a little smoother. Terry
Pryor showed up at the Army game wearing a Michigan sweatshirt. I think Mallet is gone because he knows Pryor is coming and Pryor will be the man.
If... <t>Mallet lands at UCLA Rick gets a good one but they have talent at that position already.</t>
I like Mallet a lot. He had a lot of moxie and guts and a cannon for an arm. This would be a great pick up for the Bruins if true.
It says in this article that Tenn is considering hiring Mike DeBord and Scott Loeffler the UM OCoord and UM QB Coach, I wonder what Bobda would advise Tom about his future offense!!
Tom, it also looks like Tennessee is getting Stan Drayton RB coach from the Gators. Have you heard anything about that?
I threw that in because I believe Bobda in another thread on the UM coaching search said something to the effect that he couldn't wait till Mike DeBord was no longer the UM OCoord. I don't think he has a high opinion of him! Maybe a change of scenery to Knoxville will restore his guru status!!
I enjoy reading Tom and Cindy's posts too much and do not wish DeBord upon them. Our QB coach is very good and I was very impressed with Mallet. So if they get all three, I think they will be very happy with two but will probably want to ship DeBord back north after a few games.
