I am glad we are playing LSU in lieu of West Virginia! Pat White really put on a show. Bob Stoops is not faring too well in the BCS Bowls is he?

    Don,

In one of my earlier posts, before the national championship game was set, I said exactly the same thing about WVa....that I would much prefer LSU to WVa and everybody thought I was crazy and that OU was gonna punk WVa.....well somebody got punked last night and it surely wasn't WVa....and that was without Slaton!

When they've got it going on those dudes are scary good.....my question for the USC bandwagonners on board is, "Does the game count even though WVa had the misfortune of an injury to one of their key players?" ....but they won. So the deal is if one can rise above the adversity then it counts, but if one does not rise above it, then we dismiss it as if it never happened???

It was Stanford - at home. Case dismissed.....

Did Slaton play in the home loss to Pitt?

He had 9 touches the whole game....does that count? Don't forget White left the ballgame in the 2nd quarter with a dislocated thumb.

In any event, they lost and shouldn't have and their claim on the national title went out the window, injuries or not. Just like SC....

Then why bring up the bowl win over OU with the "Does the game count?" question? Both teams won their bowls.

Just trying to clarify the rules....it seems that in some circles, one gets to pick and choose the games relevant to making the national championship decision. If so, the list of claimants would seem to be nearly endless.....unless of course we limit the number of injury-related, lack of depth related, natural disasters or other miscellaneous poor performance "free passes". I would think anything more than 1 would be a problem., but I'm thinking the west coast bloc would lobby hard for 2......

OK all you USC/Georgia bagmen.....Chew on this.

WVA just pasted - literally - the no. 4 team in the country in what obviously was not a mismatch. USC-Illinois and GA-Hawaii were mismatches. Applying the same logic you guys have used in touting USC and Georgia, would it not make sense to boost WVA above those two teams as being "the best football team" in the country as of today? Let's see what logic you use to refute this conclusion.

I was going to start a new topic, but it's not worth it. The only reason I'm chiming in is that I'm ticked my friends on or from the west coast are so adamant in promoting the evil Trojans.

    Buck-T,

I think we both know that many of the remarks with respect to USC (and Georgia) deal with how they were playing at the end of the season, and good teams should get better. USC screwed their shot at the NC with the home loss to Stanford, no question. Oregon's fade after losing Dixon no doubt made their other loss look worse than it should.

Really, it's a shame that the Rose Bowl Committee didn't pick Georgia. I would have loved to have seen that game. Illinois was no match for USC, and I don't recall a single Trojan fan being concerned over the outcome of the game beforehand.

Sid - OU was overrated. I've even read opinions from knowledgeable Big 12 fans on this board that the Sooners "suck".

    Rick,

"Knowledgeable" Big 12 fans aside ( ), Oklahoma was the no. 4 ranked team in the country and they got blown out by a team with two losses. With the benefit of hindsight, you can make the same argument that both Illinois and Hawaii were vastly overrated.

    BDR,

I hear what you're saying and have been an advocate for a playoff system for a long time.

As it relates to the current system, if I'm not mistaken, as I understand the rules, after Ohio State was selected the championship game, if the Rose Bowl were to pick a team from another conference they would have had to get the approval of the other "Bowl", i.e., the Rose Bowl could not have selected Georgia with the approval of the Sugar. That certainly would not have been in the best interest of the Sugar so they almost surely would have declined. So question 1 is do we know for certain that the Rose didn't make inquiries as to the availabilty of Georgia? Perhaps its the Sugar Bowl that is the real bad guy here....that said, it simply points out the undue influence of the bowls in the whole process....it does suck.

If it wasn't for the Holiday Bowl (vs Pac10) OU would be 0-5 in their last 5 bowl games. OU Sucks!

Truthfully I don't think that the OU defense has been the same since Mike Stoops left for Arizona. I wonder when Az will let him come back to OU? :)

That's an interesting question Rick. You might ask that of the people who insist that the two best teams are Georgia and S. Cal. They've already played their bowl games also and are going to be ranked in the top 5 which is about right.
George, I agree with that to a great degree. I think year in and year out S. Cal is the best right now no question. Pete Carroll has done an outstanding job at S. Cal and he has S. Cal to the point that they just reload every year. His teams will be ranked in the top 5 preseason every year.

I'm willing to concede he is the best college coach right now, but maybe not by the margin you think he is.

Having said all that they do not deserved to win the BCS Championship this year. But if I was allowed to only choose one team for next season I wold choose S. Cal.

LOL! I don't agree with the question being asked in the first place! Why would I ask it of anyone?

    Oy.

BTW has anybody seen a QB go down easier than Sam Bradford? One of his sacks the blitzing boundry corner barely touched him and he folded like a cheap suit.

Actually at this point JO'Co your son is doing a much better job than you in stating his position, you probably ought to call him in for some help.:):)

See the comment above. However I might say this I would rather my coach be the poacher than the poachee!

Probably a lot of people here glad to hear that you finally admitted the truth. I think Corey's lecture on truth must have reached you.
Last year? That's history, going into last night Oklahoma had more of a call on number 2 that either S. Cal or Georgia, therefore W. Virginia laying one on them like they did jumps them above those two don't you agree?

The not so fast proposal makes a certain amount of sense. However I'm waiting for you to apply it so that I can observe the proper way to handle it.
JO'Co, you need to go back to Corey's lecture about truthfulness. It's obvious that this statement is not true just by the reaction of the wonderful folks here on Skybox. This might be a good poll for me to do today while I'm sitting here with not much else to do.

You might even state a position here unlike naming who should have won the Heisman, on that subject the only thing we know about your opinion is that it's ABBTT (Any Body But Tim Tebow) I think your unwillingness to say who should have won and the silly statement about him not being able to make the scout team at USC says a lot about your agenda.
Oh wow, that one is from left field. I guess though that since JO'Co has pronounced we should all bow down in agreement

    Not!!!!

That's an interesting question. Inquiring minds may want to know the answer.

He did fold like a cheap suit and needs to stand stronger in the pocket. Can I have him for the next three years??????

Happy to help. People often respond to posts without taking the time to read them thoroughly or understand them in context. With all the time you now have, that shouldn't be an issue.

BuckeyeT...where are you staying in New Orleans? I was there earlier this year and it was sad, it seemed like a Ghost town compared to what I'd experienced pre-Katrina. Burbon Street still bustling, but the airport was deserted when my flight landed on a Thursday night and the drive in to downtown was telling.

I stayed at the Crown Plaza right there on Burbon and Canal, they still have bums in doorways though! :)
