Although he's gone, his touch still lingers. The curious calls continue when we need a yard or less. That call on 4th and inches inside the 2 sums up the last 5 years. I gotta believe Franny was somewhere with a headset on suggesting plays. Oh... and our defense still blows. I've never seen 11 guys taught NOT to attack blockers like these. We'd rather ballroom dance down the field than take on a blocker directly... The guys that created the Wrecking Crew name have been dipped in acid every day for the last five years. I sure hope their pain is over after this last chapter...
:? Better days are ahead. I sure didn't understand that call down on the goal line either. If I'm coaching a 295lb TB, he gets that call every time, instead they tried to run him around the end on a few plays. That coaching staff was trying to be too clever by half and you don't need to be clever when your running backs are bigger than the linebackers on the other side... One interesting set of comments during this game was very revealing. The incoming coach has already suggested that the cupboard is full and recruiting is going along just fine. Let's see now; if the talent level is way up and recruiting is fine, then the problem must have been...
Scott, I laughed when I read your comment about your D-Line's lack of engaging blockers at the line. I was wondering if A&M had played the Irish this year if there would have been ANY contact at the line of scrimmage because we had the same problem in reverse.
Uh, let's not sell Penn State short here. Those were two good teams on the field last night, and Penn State survived because of superior coaching. I understand Scott's frustration, and it looks like A&M has the personnel to be successful right away under the right coach. But Penn State deserved that win. The PSU QB is average at best, but the defense was relentless and the total team effort was superior to A&M's. By the way, what's with the big RB crying on the sidelenes because he did not get the carries he thought he deserved? That kid needs to be taught how to spell T-E-A-M. Maybe the new coach will take care of that issue.
Scott, I could see the call at the goal line....the big TB had been stuffed a few times prior and the PSU defense had been blowing up the los and your QB is quick so.....what really threw me is when they split the big fella out wide???? What is he gonna do out there? How is that a threat? imho, that was a little too clever to be effective for anything. Now, I did like the unbalanced lines they employed early....it did take the PSU braintrust a couple possessions to figure that one out....all in all, PSU has been playing very solid defense all year and they were the outstanding unit on the field last night and deserved the win.
The long nightmare is ovah Scott! Have you heard anything about the Ark DCoord comming to A&M. I really thought that he'd lure Bob Davie back to the sidelines since they go way back.
Sid... <t>And I agree on this one. I watched the entire game w/ a few peeks at Arizona/Memphis BB but it was a good football game. PSU really runs well on defense and oviously plays well in bowl games. Hats off to them and the Aggies as well. One thing I saw this AM was the Aggies got the stud DB from our state champion Katy HS away from his Kansas St commit. The kid is a top prospect.</t>
BTW... I wasn't trying to take anything away from PSU, they are a good team, and had a good game. One comment on Lane being upset: This wasn't a one game frustration. In the past two seasons there have been at least 10 times when the game was on the line, and we needed a yard or less and Lane has NOT been in on the play. What you saw last night was probably his disbelief that yet again he wouldn't be allowed to attempt to get the yard when that's what he was built for. JO'Co... Those words have been spoken many times by Aggie fans. Fran always seemed to get "clever" to the extreme, and this game didn't deviate from his design. So long Fran... don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out!!!
