Huge get for the Irish if true.

Former UK guard Alex Legion will transfer to Notre Dame, his mother said on Monday.

Such schools as Illinois, Michigan and Arkansas have expressed in interest in Legion.

Legion, a Parade All-American from Detroit, left UK after six games. His godfather, Tim Green, said that Legion would visit Illinois. But the player’s mother, Annette, said Notre Dame would be the choice.

Notre Dame recruited Legion during two of his high school years. He’s also friends with Notre Dame guard Tory Jackson, a sophomore from Saginaw, Mich.

By the way, Legion’s mother said she planned to stay in Lexington, where she works as a minister.

“This is where my ministry is,” she said. “This is where my blessing is.”

I'm worried he's another Dennis Lattimore, you remember him? He was a Mickey D AA and went to Az. I should have known that if he couldn't get along with Lute then he wasn't likely to be a team player. He was a big problem for Brey and after he got his ND degree he wasn't invited back for his last year of eligiblity.

Mom is a head case as well.

    We'll see.

Well he ended up at Illinois. From the things I've read I think he'll be better off at Illinois. He's a head case and I don't think Brey is very good at dealing with that type of player. He's no doubt talented, but I'm not sorry he made the choice that he did.

As much as I'd like to see the ND basketball program become big time, I just don't see it happening. Brey is a decent coach, not a great coach, and he's a decent recruiter but not a great recruiter...I think as long as he's there we'll be midlevel Big East team. Win some we shouldn't and lose some we shouldn't occassionally get a very good player, but not a class full of them. There also isn't the level of support for the Basketball program that there is for the football program. Brey was promised all sorts of things with regard to new facilities, upgrades to the Joyce Center, etc...7 or 8 years ago when he joined the program. But Joyce Center upgrades are just now being contemplated and there is no upgrade on the books for the practice facilities. But Brey is a nice man, who probably is well liked by the AD and the Administration and they will let him continue as long as he makes the NCAA tournament every once in awhile

We're going to be mediocre to average until they make a high level of commitment to facilities and the program ...ie new coach. Also I have heard that academic requirements for Brey when recruiting are higher than those that are required for Weis and he is not encouraged to take any 1 and done types (I agree with this myself). Georgetown and Boston College are Jesuit schools with academic ratings similar to ND and they can recruit players that ND admissions won't let Brey even recruit.
