Well he was a Husker....then he wanted to be Irish...then he was looking at Michigan......then he was thinking of becoming a Husker again...then Irish.......no maybe a Husker......Charlie Weis was to his in his home on Thursday eve and he is now Irish.....It think. All kidding aside, he is a a great 4 star OL catch for the Irish and another member of a great class.
Re: please <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> No, let this be Bo.<br/> <br/> We'll get him back. February's a LONG way away.</r>
This.. <t>Looks to be one of those down to 8:00 AM on LOI day.I hate those type situations bu we need this guy badly to help fix the mess we have in the O-Line.</t>
I... <t>Feel better about the commit after seeing he is to room w/ SC who is now enrolled at ND and will start classes in Jan. This is huge for the program.</t>
In the win some lose some category....Omar Hunter the #2 DT in the country and a current ND commit is waffling and will be visiting Fla. Naturally given that UF poached Justin Trattou last year from the Irish, there is an increasingly bad feeling about the tactics of Urban Meyer in recruiting. Also from what you read in this article from the AJC, you'd have to figure that Hunter is not likely to stay with ND. Fla is his likely destination now. If Hunter does indeed go to Fla, we will still have a good/great class but he was/is a pretty important part of our class. If playing time is his issue, I don't see how Florida's depth chart offers any more opportunity that the Irish.
Terry, What did Meyer do that was so bad? Did he visit the kid? What did Meyer do with Trattou that makes it poaching? All over the country coaches hit the road and visit recruits. Some are committed to other schools and some are undecided. I'm just curious.
Now you have to understand this is all hearsay. But the bad feelings about Meyers recruitment of Trattou came when Meyer supposedly told Trattou (a ND Verbal) that he wanted him to visit and would get an offer with the visit, but that he didn't want Trattou to tell the ND coaches to know that he was looking around. It's not illegal, it's just unethical. Both Charley and Mack Brown have a rule, if you make a verbal to Texas or ND they expect you to stop taking visits. Emmauel Moody lost his scholarship offer when he told Mack he wanted to go visit USC. If you aren't sure then fine don't give us your verbal, we'll keep looking as long as you are looking. They also both have a rule that if you are a commited recruit to another school and want to consider either ND or Texas then you have to call the coach at your school and tell them that you are going to start taking visits to other schools. In the Trattou case, Meyer supposedly specifically told Trattou not to do that. I know everybody(including me) gets all upset when a commited recruit dumps you in the last month of recruiting, and I know that it's the kids right, and I know that in the end if the kid really wants to be somewhere else then it's really better that he go some place else. It's his right, a verbal is just a promise. But it screws things up. ND dropped recruiting a couple of good DT's when Omar verbaled, it's likely too late to get back in on those guys. There was a time when it was rare for a coach to go after another teams verbals, but that is no longer true. I have (again hearsay) heard that Meyer likes to go after top players who have verbaled because then the competition is down to just him and the current school. Again not illegal and he's not the only guy doing it and if the kids didn't encourage it in the first place then ....well you know. Terry
roger that, I hadn't heard the part about the secrecy. I know a lot of kids commit and continue to visit. I kind of like the honoring the commitment only if the recruit stops visiting practice.
its alll just internet rumor <t>and well, I know this isn't but..<br/> <br/> aside from the secrecy, UM and Mattison told Trattou told the kid that ND had no plans for him in the new 3-4 scheme and that he wouldn't fit in. Meyer couldn't have played it better and it does appear that Meyer likes to use the approach that Terry described (move in on top flight committed kids) because, again as Terry said, the competition is long gone.<br/> <br/> This doesn't really relate to ND but the SEC is going to get nasty with the addition of Petrino..The SEC West is just settling down with all the changes in the past year or so, but there are some guys who will soon start addressing Meyer in the near future.<br/> <br/> If this kid goes, he goes. If he comes, he comes. I want guys who want ND. I hope he decides he wants ND, but if he doesn't come, its not the end of the world and I wish him the best.</t>
hUNTER <t>Well this is an unfortunate turn as far as Hunter is concerned. What bothers me about this is that as recent as last month this kid said he was firm on his comittment and was going to honor his word to CW. All the ND guys here know what CW has told all these recruits especially this class about there comittments and what it means to give your verbal. <br/> <br/> As far as I'm concerned, if this is true, he is breaking his word already by even contemplating a visit to Florida or anywhere else and HE KNOWS IT. <br/> <br/> Yes, he is a big part of this class and will probably be a great player wherever he goes but ND has other DTs in this class and will have more additions to the defense before it is done. I hope he comes but I ain't loosing any sleep over him. If he doesn't honor his comittment to CW after hearing Charlie's definition of a "verbal" then I wouldn't want him on the team anyway no matter how great he is. <br/> <br/> With him or without him ND is set to end up as the #! recruiting class but he easily fills a big need for the Irishj.</t>
If Charlie had the balls he would yank this kid's offer the moment he steps on the UF campus. Now THAT would make a statement about integrity. Charlie set the rules now enforce them. He's a babe in the woods when he matches up against predators like Urbie. Here's an opportunity to prove otherwise and it will mak ethe other recruits feel that much better about their committments.
The rule is <t>If you are looking, we are looking.<br/> <br/> Its a free country. At this point in time, the kid has done nothing official. I thought he had already visited Florida officially before he committed? I could be wrong about that.<br/> <br/> Either way, I get better info from SEC schools than I do ND these days so I am not sure who the boys could have on the burner ready to go. What I do know is that some people will be adjusting their future recruiting tactics to be more ready for certain recruiters. It appears that SEC may be headed back to the mud slinging, back stabbing, rumor spreading ways of the 90s.<br/> <br/> Get the popcorn.</t>
A lot of Texas fans feel that Mack has changed his recruiting since Ryan Perraloux dumped him on signing day. He's taking fewer chances, many were critical of his early signings this year and felt that they weren't the best that he could do but that they were the safest. They felt like he should have waited and fought for some differnent players, take some chances rather than accept verbals from guys who he could easily slow play while looking for better guys. With the coaches that are in the SEC now, Petrino,Miles,Saban,Richt,Meyer, Fulmer, Tubberville, even Nutt...there is going to be fierce competition for recruits. It certainly could get ugly. Also put Paul Johnson at Ga.Tech and he's going to take some offensive talent away from SEC schools and even FSU and Miami. It's going to be tight in the Southeast for recruiting.
Terry, You are right that recruiting in the southest is going to be tough. This is just another reason why I would like to see Alabama take 80% or more of their recruits from within the state. Most of the kids in Alabama grow up as fans of either Auburn or Alabama. That should give those 2 schools some kind of edge.
