    Well, today is the big day.

    Estimates of anywhere between 50-120 names to be disclosed as proven steroid and/or HGH abusers.

    Promises of many big names including MVPs, CY Young winners, future HOFers etc.

    Several Yankees expected to be among them....my guess would be the obvious Giambi and Sheffield. I would lay 5-1 that Clemens is on there as well Would not be surprised to see Kyle Farnsworth either. My heart will be broken if either Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte or Posada is on that list.

    Two questions:

    Who do you think on your team is a candidate for this shameful roster?
    and

    Does this relegate MLB to a WWE type status? In other words, do any of the accomplishements of these players really mean anything after this?

    Look what they've done to our game to our game... :(

    On the Tigers I see Shefield and Pudge being named. I miss the Pudge on the roids.

    I will say this

    <t>no one here is innnocent... no one<br/>
    <br/>
    there may be some who aren't named, just as surely as there will be those who are.. but none are innocent<br/>
    <br/>
    and those named as guilty, well, they knew the risk. we all make our own deals.</t>

    I'd be shocked if any Astro was in that report, we don't have anybody with that Chisled Adonis physique and our hat sizes are all in the 7's. :)

    ESPN radio has reported that, yes, Roger Clemens will be on the list of two-bit phonies. This would be the same RC who has been hyping his extreme excercise regimen for lo these many years as the secret to his success. He may also be ready to dime out the Yankeee trainers as his suppliers.

    Follow up question: If true, do we put this cheatin' amped up bastard in Cooperstown next to Mr. Olympia, Barry Bonds?

    It is no surprise to me that Clemens would be on the list. You don't get progressively more muscular as you age into your forties. I've always wondered why Clemens was never under more suspicion. It just goes to show you that if you're nice to the media they'll be nice to you.

    Count me as someone not surprised about Clemens either. The Bosox gave up on him in 1996 for good reason, he looked like he was done. All of a sudden he reinvents himself and goes onto win 150 more game and four more Cy Young awards.

    Guess who his new teammate was in 1996? Jose Canseco.

    Glad to see not a single key contributor from the Braves run on there. Sheffield did play a while in Atlanta however as did Farnsworth for an even shorter amount of time. No Andruw or Chipper Jones or any of the Braves' starting pitchers on that list. Pujols is an interesting name. It's not really all that surprising that he's on the list but it will be interesting to see what repurcussions this has on his status as one of the game's greats. No Alex Rodriguez either which to me is a little surprising. I'm glad he's not on the list however so that maybe we can have one superstar that appears to be clean.

    I just noticed John Rocker being there. That's not all that surprising either and I'm quite sure that he was a testosterone filled lug even before he started shootin' up.

    The only issue I have with the list is that it's guilt without notice or representation, so to speak. I realize the list is probably accurate or at least semi on target, but if there's a player falsely accused he's wasting his time trying to clear his name.

    For the record, I count 20 of the 77 names that I recognize as pitchers. There are a few names I don't recognize or remember what position they played. I'm including Ankiel who was a pitcher when he used.

    I'm sure each of us baseball fans sees some names that are particularly disappointing to see and some that are not surprising.

    so i am watching the report

    <t>I can't believe I'm sitting here watching people I know have their lives destroyed on national tv...by the same people who enabled them, being broadcast on the very medium that lauded their actions...<br/>
    <br/>
    remember, all these heroes are/were aware this was going on.<br/>
    <br/>
    i haven't checked in with jay gibbons in a few years. i'd bet he needs a friend now but i'm not dropping in on someone at this time.<br/>
    <br/>
    ugh.</t>

    I downloaded the Mitchell report off of MLB.com (it's a 409 page .pdf) and searched it for Jason Varitek, Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz. No hits.

    <t>I'm about halfway thru this. Its sad, but nothing shocking for the most part.<br/>
    <br/>
    IMHO, this is just sad... and if people don't see thru the owners, media,politicians and lawyers all running around representing 'the fan' then I have no hope for the people..</t>

    From a post by Rick in another topic:
    Nice research, Rick. It casts doubt on much of the above list. Thanks for your work.

    Thank you, Sid. And you're welcome.

    This is not a fun day for baseball fans, regardless of who is, or is not, listed. There are no doubt some players that are not listed because they escaped detection.
