For 6 young players, two of whom have star potential. Subject to physicals. That should make the Tigers very competitive in the AL Central if Dontrelle can find his form of a couple of years ago and Cabrera can have a normal season for him. Maybe Kenny Rogers can mentor Dontrelle. They still have some middle and late relief issues but their offense is going to be deadly with Granderson, Renteria, Cabrera, Ordonez, a healthy Sheffield, Guillen, etc., etc.

Tigers gave up 2 good youngins Miller and Maybin. However, they can give up an outfielder for a potent 3rd sacker. Their lineup is going to look pretty potent. If only that damn bullpen holds up.....

Cabrera is without a doubt one of the best young hitters in baseball. But he is horrible at third base. Where will Detroit play him?

Willis hasn't been the same pitcher the last couple of years. Hopefully he will bounce back. He was a lot of fun to watch those first couple of years.

BTW, on Mike & Mike this morning they were saying that this deal would bring the Marlins payroll down to around eight million dollars. And I thought my Pirates were cheap.

What is with the Marlins, seems like they have a fire sale every 4 or 5 years to get rid of the good young players they have developed?

On Willis, I don't know what the deal is with him, a couple of years ago he was on the cusp of being the best pitcher in baseball, then he has seemed to slip, has he been injured or did he get a big contract and start hanging out with Gonzo?

The Marlins shouldn't even have a MLB franchise. They are an absolute joke, nothing more than a developmental team for everyone else to feast on.

How stupid would one have to be to buy a ticket to one of their games?

Not many buy tickets to their games, I saw an Astros/Marlins game on TV at their place and I could hand count the fans. Of course the way their ownership has run the place I don't blame them for not supporting the team.

Here is an interesting column relating to the trade. It's very long but if you are a baseball junkie like me, it's an interesting read........

On paper the Tigers look pretty awsome. They've added Cabrera and Rentoria to a lineup that led the majors in runs scored last season. But the soft underbelly still exists. As long at Todd Jones is their so called "closer" they're in trouble. With Zumaya on the shelf again with an injury and Rodney as inconsistant as ever, they're going to have to make a move to fix that glaring problem.
Lots of questions about the future of Brandon Inge. He could be kept as a late inning replacement for Cabrera, moved back to catcher to sub Pudge or be traded.

The Dodgers could have made this deal, if they had been willing to meet the Marlins demands of Matt Kemp, Jonathan Broxton and either James Loney or Clayton Kershaw. I'm glad that Colletti didn't do it. The future is now for those guys. I wonder why the Marlins demanded so much from the Dodgers, but took so little from the Tigers? Maybe they thought the Dodgers could be had. Or maybe they're just not very smart...

I think "not very smart" is a very safe bet...

Hey! Get out of our NL backyard. Get back over there in the AL where you belong, you.......you....you Yankee fan.

The Andruw Jones signing would seem to me to be a calculated gamble. If he can return to his normal production, it gives the boys in blue the power hitter they so desperately need, plus he's an excellent defensive CF. I hope it works out for him and the Dodgers.

So in the past decade which teams have won multiple WS? The Yanks, the Red Sox and the "not very smart" Marlins. If your team isn't winning, maybe their not stupid enough!

As I understand it, the only ones who attend Marlin games are friends, family and those in the witness protection program. However, that really shows how difficult it is to produce results on the field without financial resources. After all, we know that any idiot can field a winning team if he has more money than any other franchise.
As far as not being very bright, can there be any management dumber than the Cubs? Attend a game there. It smacks of "smart" but results say differently.

    re: Dodgers sign Andruw Jones

    Groan...

I hate that guy. He's lazy and arrogant. Last year he batted .222 and he dropped an easy fly ball against the Dodgers. I don't want him at any price. Players for Atlanta and Colorado always have inflated numbers, because they play in mile-high stadiums. That .222 might turn into a .198 here. Even worse, now Coletti will trade Matt Kemp for a pitcher and we'll get stuck with a dumb, over-weight, blockhead in centerfield, with a dumb, underweight blockhead (Juan Pierre) in leftfield.

I don't like any of this. Asking me to root for a team that includes both Jeff Kent and Andruw Jones is asking a lot...

Colorado... yes. Atlanta... No! Average elevation in Atlanta is less than 1000 ft.

Ouch! JO'Co, because I don't follow the Braves, I just did not realize AJ's reputation. I hope for your sake that your new manager can turn him around.
