I personally like it. If his team does the job and the defense looks really good, it can only help BO's and NU's situation for exposure and future recruiting. Pelini will coach LSU in BCS title game Lincoln – Nebraska Interim Athletic Director Tom Osborne announced Tuesday night that Bo Pelini has his “full support” to help coach second-ranked LSU against top-ranked Ohio State in the Bowl Championship Series national title game. “Bo has been at LSU for three years, and its players and coaches have worked very hard for a chance to win the national championship,” Osborne said. “I am confident that Bo is handling his responsibilities in his new job here as effectively as possible. The two-week dead period in recruiting (beginning in mid-December) gives him a chance to take care of some unfinished business at LSU without really putting us in any kind of bind.” The Tigers were ranked seventh before beating Tennessee in the Southeastern Conference championship game last Saturday in Atlanta. When then top-ranked Missouri and second-ranked West Virginia both lost games over the weekend, LSU (11-2) leapfrogged five teams in the BCS Rankings for the chance to meet Ohio State Jan. 7 for the national championship in New Orleans. “For the last two days, I have been totally focused on getting our coaching staff in place and our recruiting efforts as streamlined as possible,” Pelini said. “(LSU Head Coach) Les Miles has asked me to coordinate his defense in the national championship game, but before saying yes, I wanted to make sure it would not interfere with what we’re trying to get done at Nebraska and also make sure that it had Coach Osborne’s approval.” In giving his support, Osborne knows that the game is particularly meaningful to Pelini because he was a standout free safety at Ohio State from 1987 to 1990 and earned four letters for the Buckeyes. Coached by Earle Bruce in his first season and by John Cooper in his final three seasons at Ohio State, Pelini was a three-time selection to the Academic All-Big Ten team. As a senior co-captain, he received the “Bo Rein Award”, given annually to the Buckeyes’ most inspirational player.
Well on the surface it's a good thing, not desert your troops etc. But this is exactly what Mike Stoops did when he took the Az job, OU was in the BCS bowl against LSU (or was it USC I forget). But he also spent a lot of time working on the AZ situation. In the end the OU defense didn't play as well as they had during the season, some think it was because Mike wasn't totally focused on the game. But by coaching the game he'll at the very least look good, if they win it's a big plus for him and the Neb program. I'm sure every chance they get the annoucners will make some reference to the fact that he's the new Neb head coach. That's what they did when Charlie took the ND job and stayed with the Pats from then on he was always aknowledged as the ND HC and they ran all the way to the Super Bowl. So you have to figure it got him off to a good start recruiting, the kids all knew who he was. Will probably work something like that for Pellini. Terry
I think he has earned the right to be there and it can only mean good exposure for him and NU, not something we've had a lot of the last few years.
