LSU marches down the field with a very impressive drive of their own.

Tennessee defense is not wrapping up. They are trying to knock them down. That will not work. The Tennessee defense stiffens at the 13 yard line and LSU has to settle for a 30 yard FG.

    Tennessee 7
    LSU 3

    Right on all counts.

Tenn looked good on the drive and the charm continued on the missed int.

Tennessee’s second drive starts well with Foster on a 11 yard run. Ainge is making good decisions to throw it away when everyone is covered. Problem is that the receivers were covered too many times.

Tennessee forced to punt to LSU. LSU’s ball on the LSU 29 yard line.

LSU’s Hester is a horse. Williams is a Clydesdale. They don’t need to throw it down the field with those two. LSU to the 11 yard line with first and 10. Again, the Tennessee defense stiffens and forces a mistake by LSU. Again, LSU attempts a 30 yard field goal and it is good.

    Tennessee 7
    LSU 6

LSU fans must have been in agony in the Arkansas game when Hester's TD was called back because Doucette lined up wrong. I couldn't believe it myself.

    Keep it up, Vols.

    Charmed indeed....

Normally reliable LSU kicker misses an easy FG for the lead at half.

Maybe it is in the cards for Tenn.

Creer takes the kickoff all the way to the LSU 42 yard line. Running up the middle probably is not going to be very successful for the Vols. Two straight plays prove that. 3rd and 10 only nets 5 yards. The Tennessee offense is starting to look anemic. Vols punt and LSU

I’ll post this now. We just returned from a cardiac call out. CPR performed for over an hour… unsuccessfully. I’m mentally spent. We’ll check in at the end.

Good game that obviously did not go the way I wanted. I don't have much problem with the coaching staff in this one although I would have liked to have seen Lennon Creer try to pop a run outside because Foster was getting stuffed all game. In the end though Erik Ainge had a chance to do to define how he would be remembered as the Tennessee QB and he did. The last four years have been filled with missed opportunities. Chalk this one up as such.

On the bright side...I love this Tennessee team going forward. They have great young talent at WR and in the secondary. We'll see if they can further develop that talent in the month leading up to a bowl game. Chick Fil A against Boston College perhaps??

This team fought hard all game and definitely proved, IMO, they deserved to be there. I'm getting tired of looking forward to next year........

Sorry about your call out Tom...more impt. than football for sure.

Tenn was as they have been....gritty and determined.

It was a competitive game and interesting they lost much in the same way that the '92 Gators lost to a favored Bama squad in the inaugural SECCG....an int return for a TD in a 7 point loss with a senior Qb...Shane Mathews throwing the pick 6.

Tough loss, Ainge made 2 really bad throws. Otherwise I think Tenn wins the game.

Who will be the Tenn QB next year to throw to those wrs'?

The Vols gave good effort Aquila and hit very hard.

SEC Bowls as I see them:

    Sugar - LSU
    Orange - Ga
    Cap One - Fla
    Outback - Tenn
    Chick - Ky
    Cotton - Aub
    Indep - MSU
    Music - Bama

They did give a good effort. I would actually rather see Tennessee in the Outback Bowl. I was hoping that if Tennessee lost today that Virginia Tech would as well setting up a game around here that would have been one for the ages in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. I know I've said this before but Tennessee and Tech fans don't get along too well in my neck of the woods although the two teams have rarely played. I know they met in the Gator Bowl in '94 I think but I don't know if they played before that or not. Speaking of this matchup, a couple of years ago NASCAR tycoon Bruton Smith who owns several tracks including Bristol Motor Speedway offered each team 20 million dollars to play a game at BMS. Of course, scheduling conflicts and other matters prevented this from happening. He thought he could pack 160000 fans into that stadium to watch the game and set a record. I don't doubt it. I'd love to see Tenn. smack VT sometime to hush up the UT detractors. Anyway, there's my foray into dream world.

To answer your question, Terry, it looks like Jonathan Crompton will be the Tenn. QB although I wouldn't rule out someone else. Crompton has had a few moments at Tenn. and I've heard good things about him and he was a highly touted QB out of HS. That being said, with those WRs they should have a strong selling point to top notch QB recruits and I wouldn't rule out a fierce competition in camp. Should be an interesting bowl game and offseason for Tenn. I think Fulmer needs to win the bowl game or he's on a very hot seat again next season.

Sorry for the absence. Right after my last post, we had a second call out… this time a structure fire. I’m getting too old for this.

Aquila already answered but I am sure that Crompton will get the nod.

I’ll have more comments after I get to watch the game tomorrow.

Don't look now but I think LSU will now get a crack at the NC against Ohio State.....which would get another crack at an SEC Champion.

    In New Orleans no less.

    Tennessee Tom,

Sorry your plans to watch the game were interrupted, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

The two interceptions were game killers! I thought the Volunteer defense really played great.

    Tough one to lose.

Sorry the Vols didn't get it done, and I though they would after the start of the game. I missed the 2nd half as we had a commitment away from the house. Seems like the defense played hard and that's a good sign as most seem to be young guys who'll return, next year.

Looking forward to 2008, who are the candidates to be the next UT QB? And, what happens to the o-line, do you lose many starters?

AFA fishing ..... (sigh) .... I had to clean gutters, rake leaves, mow the lawn (what little I have as my yard is heavily "treed"), hang the outside Christmas lights, and get the "fake tree"out of the attic for its final performance (next year we're trying a real tree, again). Oh well, Merry Christmas. :D

Crompton looks to be the QB and the entire line virtually returns intact on offense. Tennessee will take a big hit on the D-line and that is crucial in the SEC. We'll just have to see if they can get guys to step up and get it done.

No truer words can be spoken. A deeper, more experienced d-line could have made a big difference in the outcome of UF's games against LSU and Auburn. Heck, it may have even had some positive impact on the UGa game, too.
