    ESPN now says Miles and Tenuda (sp) are both going to Michigan and it's a done deal.

    Must have been a phone offer and acceptance.

    You have to wonder why Michigan couldn't wait until after the SECCG.

    Miles is saying Miles will stay at LSU.

    Looks like Michigan just got similar treatment that the Irish got from Urban.

    I think that Urban was smart enough to know that two very weak classes spelled disaster at ND. I am almost certain that he could not have brought in classes that matched the last two at ND. As Bud Withers said in the Seattle Times of ND recruiting: "Make no mistake about it, Notre Dame will be back."

    Is there anyone on the Skybox, who dosen't think Myles had led Michigan to think he was a lock?

    It would appear to me he was playing both Michigan and LSU for a nice raise and he certainly appears to be successful.

    Nothing wrong with looking out for number 1, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    Michigan, like Notre Dame, was bamboozled by a coach that they openly pined for like a schoolgirl.

    I think this tactic should henceforth be known and identified in sports management circles as "Urban Renewal". 8)

    Spoken like a true Buckeye.

    Seriously, why attack the guy when you have absolutely no idea what happened? He never said anything public until his comments on Saturday. He never said or did anything that would lead me to believe that he was doing anything but coaching his team, so how can you or anyone else accuse him of something you know nothing about?. If anything, he handled the situation very well while the media sharks, including your beloved Herbie, circled and tried to create something where there was nothing. I suspect LSU took the bull by the horns and made a pre-emptive offer that shut out anything that MI would offer him. Good for him.

    You Buckeyes should be happy. He might have turned the tables in your rivalry. We'll never know, will we?

    Sid,

    Your points are acknowledged, but i suspect there were some pretty good sources, prior to Herbie's story, not just idle speculation.

    As for the rivalry many OSU fans were hoping that Myles would get the job, so the edge would still be in favor of the Buckeyes?

    Now I really wonder who will be tapped for the job?

    Butler sure did the job on us last night!

    Michigan sources? With a chance to make a Buckeye look bad? Seriously, Don, that was the first thought that popped into my mind. Was Herbie ambushed, whether intentional or not, by someone from MI? I have no idea how these things work, but that was the thought that came to me.

    Re: Butler. They look pretty good so far for a small private school. I was shocked by the margin.

    I think that he had enough conversation with ND to give the impression that he was very interested in the job. Clearly the Irish had that impression. When he subsequently announced for the Gators the Irish were caught flat and the scramble was on.

    I'm not blaming Meyer... he leveraged a good deal for himself. I'm saying Miles may have used a similar tactic on LSU and it worked for him as well.

    So I call it "Urban renewal". :wink:

    Well George, if the Irish didn't have a plan and process for the replacement of TW, I would say the challenges faced were pretty much self-inflicted wounds. Can't reasonably and honesty lay the blame on Meyer for listening to what ND had to offer, even if he was their only (I guess) candidate.

    Anyway .... Meyer to UF was a done deal when UF hired Bernie Machen as its Prez. Heck, everyone knew .... or should have known ..... that!!

    George,

    I don't buy that prevailing rationale. Never did. I believe ND had a list of candidates ranked one through whatever. When UM said no they went to #2. I believe that they did not get caught flatfooted.

    I think Herbstreet, went with a story from one source, and he failed to verify with any other source. In the same show, I believe he said there was 0 chance of Pitt beating WVA. He went on one of those rolls of saying no way, 0 chance, never, nada, zilch...etc. Not a good day for this sports "reporter".

    while Herbie did wind up looking like an ass

    <t>Miles didn't exactly deny interest in the Michigan job.<br/>
    <br/>
    Let's not make him a saint here. WAAAY back when speculation was running wide open that Lloyd was on his way out (Michigan's 0-2 start), Miles was playing coy and refusing to discuss the matter.<br/>
    <br/>
    If Miles was always planning on being at LSU, he could have come right out then and said it back in week 3 of the season. He did not. Another matter that no one is disputing is that Michigan received permission from LSU to negotiate with Miles. There's a whole lot of smoke around this situation for there not to be some amount of fire.<br/>
    <br/>
    However, reading the Michigan boards it would appear that almost none of them wanted Miles. At the very least, I think its safe to say it wasn't a clear majority in favor of the guy. I think Miles and his camp played the media into a pretty sweet deal for him in terms of dollars.<br/>
    <br/>
    I kind of liked Miles when he was at Okie State but I really didn't know that much about him. The more I see of him at LSU, the less I like.</t>

    Corey,

    Lies Miles is a punk.
    Always has been, always will be. He is the biggest negative recruiter on the planet, and not that good of a coach.

    I think L$U wins in SPITE of him, certainly not because of him.

    Michigan dodged a bullet.
    I hope Loser State pays him a fortune only to circle the drain in a few years.

    Hey Scott

    <t>remember that thread in which TOK asked Bobda about Lloyd Carr having Parkinson's? Bobda dismissed it as creative fiction work of a rabid ND fan.<br/>
    <br/>
    Well I did some digging around on that rumor, since TOK doesn't normally quote or even pass forth half-cocked theories.. that just bugged me.<br/>
    <br/>
    I guess it turns out, from what I can find, that the source of that rumor (and all other Lloyd health rumors) seem to be coming from recruiting battles..and the alleged source of that information is Les Miles.</t>

    According to the Detroit newspapers, Miles agents contacted Michigan to advise that he was very interested in the job. It appears that some discussions did occur. I would be curious whom Herbstriet's sources were. If someone wanted to blow up a deal, leaking to Herbsteit a story that Les and M were a done deal just prior to the SEC championship would be a great time to do it. I am a little dissappointed in Herbie. I like him a hell of a lot as an analyst but he is not a reporter and now has egg on his face.

    Corey's anaysis of the mood of M fans is the same as mine. I think a majority of the fans wanted Miles but his reputation of being a snake oil salesmen and Carr's antipathy to him left many fans leery of him.
    I am still crossing my fingers Ferentz. Frankly, I would also be elated if our AD department read some of TB's and Corey's posts and contacted Paul Johnson who I think has the coaching acument to be the Tressel antidote. But, I never even see his name mentioned as a posible candidate.
