Going. Lloyd Carr Franchionne Callahan Ed Ogeron of Ole Miss. Guy Morris of Baylor Could get to be a big list this year.
I <t>am really surprised by O being bounced at Ole Miss.<br/> <br/> Ole Miss was without a key player that would be eligible next year. The AD and the big money boosters who ran out Coach Cut have all been saying that O will be around next year...but next season is the year he must prove himself.<br/> <br/> That greased up manbearpig was a hand picked replacement for Cut that was suppose to take Ole Miss to the next level. Instead, he couldn't come close to the success of his predecessor... Cut was run out by the AD and $$ boosters. For O to be gone, is as good as an admission from those people that they were flat wrong..They don't admit they are wrong very often.</t>
I would be very surprised if Tedford goes anywhere. Over the last decade, he probably could have had jobs at USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Colorado, Stanford, Arizona State and lots of other places, but he seems very happy at Cal...
Code: Rumors of new hires.... Kirk Ferentz to Michigan Jeff Tedford to Texas A&M Phil Fulmer to Tenn LOL! Tom can laugh at this one because the Vols pulled it out yesterday. If they hadn't he might think it's so funny.
I sure hope that Michigan doesn't get Ferentz. He's a great coach and they would become an even greater pain in the arse then they are right now. I'm rooting for the Mad Hatter, Les Miles, to get the job. He's dumb enough to cost his teams victories even when they have better talent. He's my choice for the Wolvies...
Moderators, can we erase JO'Co's above post quickly before Bobda sees it and conveys those thoughts to the Michigan brass? If they know how M's opponents feel about their candidates, they may hire the wrong (for us) guy.
Too late, Sid. I cut and pasted his comments on a widely read M site describing Jo Co as a very knowledgeable college football fan and player and Nd insider who wishes our program famine and pestliance. I did not mention his predilictions to elevate any Dodger infielder hitting above 215 to sure bet Hall of Fame status and avoiding commenting that he believed Glen Mason's firing would bring great days ahead for the Minnesota program. I agree with Jo Co on this one and thought his voice, with some embellishment of his bone fides might help Captain Kirk's cause
Word is Chan Gailey was just fired. That's bad news for UGA fans, "Rumor" has it Paul Johnson is their man? Please Lord put a stop to it. I don't know what Nebraska is waiting on? I'll pull for Paul Johnson anywhere but at GT.
Roof is out at Duke..but that's a bad job a career killer. The surprise is that Jeff Bower is out at So. Miss. He's had a lot of opportunities to go to other more high profile programs in the past and turned them down out of loyalty to his Alma Mater. I guess that doesn't count for anything these days. Paul Johnson to Ga. Tech...wow that would be interesting.
Might be right Tailback. West Virgina proved you can be successfull running a Service Academy type of offense, at Ga. Tech he'd have better players. The problem I see for him is that while he's built Navy into a legit football team on offense, they aren't very good on defense. It's sort of like Mike Leach at Texas Tech, great offense that is tough to prepare for but not so great a defense so you have a shootout almost every week.
He's outta there!! He's had some good teams, but the last 2 years, esp last year with the Mitch Mustain debacle I guess he sort of lost it. [/quote]Houston Nutt, the second-longest tenured football coach in the Southeastern Conference, will not be back at Arkansas next season, sources told ESPN.com on Monday. University officials will make the announcement at a news conference scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET in Fayetteville. The university would not comment on the nature of the announcement, other than to say Nutt, Chancellor John White and outgoing athletic director Frank Broyles will be on hand. Nutt, who will receive a settlement in the neighborhood of $3.5 million, led the Razorbacks to two SEC championship game appearances. The Razorbacks lost their first three Southeastern Conference games after a turmoil-filled offseason. Arkansas rebounded to finish the regular season 8-4 and knocked LSU out of the nation's No. 1 spot with a 50-48, triple-overtime victory over the Tigers on Friday. Two weeks ago, the university strongly denied reports that this would be Nutt's last season as Arkansas' coach. On Sunday, Nutt said White and Broyles wanted him to return, but he said more talks with the university were forthcoming.
Wow.. <t>So Nutt is fine Sunday and early this AM now out this afternoon. What a wild coaching situation this is. <br/> <br/> Agree on Paul Johnson and Tech. Does ND have them on future schedules?</t>
Terry <r>Tailback stole the words right from my mouth (what is with Tailback and I agreeing on damn near everything lately?)... He could retain Tenuta, and Ted Roof just dropped on the market. There are good options out there.<br/> <br/> One thing about Johnson's offense is that it allows a defense time to rest. Its not like a DC would be taking a job with an offense that sticks them right back on the field.<br/> <br/> IMHO, Johnson at GTech could be a devastating hire for Georgia instate and the teams in the ACC. He wouldn't have to build any in-roads on the recruiting trail there. He has long established recruiting ties in that area.. but now he'll be offering DI scholarships and opportunity.<br/> <br/> The Nutter is gone. Its one of those things that sort of 'had to happen' but at the same time I am not sure they are going to land someone who has more success. His win/loss record isn't exactly shabby.<br/> <br/> BTW- I am still upset over coach O being gone. Damn, he just made Ole Miss football fun <E></E></r>
