Interesting, A&M AD Billy Byrne is expecting the largest crowd in
Kyle Field hisory. I guess everybody loves a train wreck!!

Also BB says that 5 Bowls (Alamo,Insight,Independence,Texas and Sun Bowls) are expressing interest in the Ag's. I wonder who will coach them.

Other interesing factoids. R.C. Slocum was completely surprised when he was fired following his last game against Texas. Fred Akers told reporters "see ya next year" in concluding his post game press conference. He was fired in less than 24hrs. David McWilliams had been given a 5 year extension in 1990 after the season, but was fired the next year after losing to A&M. Jackie Sherril is the only coach to be fired after beating UT.

Duane Akina the Texas Co-DCooord who has put 24 Longhorn DB's in the NFL (as a DB Coach) but since moving to DCoord has had some very questionable defenses is on he hot seat. Nobody is very happy with the job he's done as a Coord. I wonder if he'd accept a demotion or would just be fired.

This is the worst-prepared Texas team I have seen since 1997. I lay ALL of the blame at the feet of Mack Brown and his, repeat, HIS, staff. We had the talent - some of it green, but they haven't been newbies since September - we had an EASY OOC schedule and we had every incentive in the world to reach October undefeated and with a solid win over our first conference opponent. We had a QB coming of a record-setting redshirt freshman year. We had more good, potentially great receivers than anyone in the country. We had a solid RB and we had another to back him up. We had a number of talented freshmen, in fact, two of them at the QB position backing up the sophomore. And what do we get?

    1) Sheer mediocrity through our first four games. Yeah we whipped up on Rice and if you think that's a meaningful win, you must also like beating up on old ladies in wheel chairs, because it's about the same thing.

    2) Rampant inconsistency from the opening kickoff on day one until the final gun tonight.

    3) We lose to the one conference opponent we had every conceivable reason to beat - an opponent that was not very good as they demonstrated later in the season - and we got whipped by them AT HOME.

    4) We give two solid efforts (but for that fumble, we'd have beaten OU), followed by two miserable ones followed by the best game of our season followed by the worst. Somewhere in there, we kicked another cripple. We will finish out of the top 15 and should finish out of the top 25. Who cares what bowl game we have to play in?

It is a real accomplishment to take a team with a breadth and depth of talent like this one had - a breadth and depth of talent that a lot of coaches, those at Missouri and Kansas to mention just two of them, would KILL to have - and come through the season with a really pretty crappy result. And I call only one win over a competent opponent and a bunch of close calls to some really mediocre teams a bad result, even if the final number is 9-3.

So who is responsible for this accomplishment? Mack Brown. Mack Brown and his wretched judgment in using talent and hiring and retaining assistants. Mack Brown who seemingly can manage to motivate his players only once in a season. Mack Brown who truly is embarrassed by riches.

Those assistants need to go - every last one of them. The players who return next year should do so with no guarantees as to who starts, and throughout the season, seniority needs to be the LAST consideration when it comes to playing on any Saturday - the last consideration including whether they have two legs. And if Mack can't bring himself to do all of that, then HE needs to go. Yeah, it might be rough replacing him, but sooner or later, we will. And there is absolutely no doubt in my mind, he is taking us nowhere but down from now on out.

Oh yeah I didn't write that post above I got it from a longtime big Texas fan over on InsideTexas...

Congrats to the Ags, they got the win and they got rid of the coach.

I heard that Fran and BB came out and Fran resigned and while Byrne was talking he got up and left, then got into his car and had a police escort off campus.

Probably for the second time in five years, the Aggies actually came out inspired, and with a decent game plan (the other time was the texas game last year).

Judging by Terry's rant, the shine is off that MNC for a couple of years ago. Vince is gone, and with him went Mack's "coaching".

I think Mack is a great recruiter, and a decent coach, but he ain't great.
With that said... how can you fire a guy that consistently wins 9-10 games?

You just have to wait for your next VW...

What a great day for the Aggies. We beat tu, Fran resigns, the baskeball team destroys Ohio St for the NIT win, AND...
    L$U loses!

    PERFECTION!

More calls for massive changes on Macks staff and some serious dissing of A&M's offense and Stephen McGee. I thought that was uncalled for, congratulate your oppent don't call the team that just beat you a stoneage offense and berate the QB who just beat you.

The Wicked Football Fairy showed up at Scott's house and granted him three wishes:
Scott: "Uh...how about we beat Texas, you fire our coach and ...uh...can LSU go down the drain too?"
    Boing! Granted...

I wonder who hires the ex-A&M coach now?

    Terry,
I feel your frustration. I hope Alabama redeems some of its season tonight.

Geez Terry, I read that post from another board you put up and the whole time I'm thinking Wow, this isn't the Terry I thought I knew.

Then you owned up it wasn't you and my world came back together!

Tough loss but congratulations Scott. Now stay tuned to see what coach you guys get.

LOL! I had the same reaction. It seemed a bit strong and out of character for Terry. Then I read the next post and all was right in the world.

    Nice...

<t>Win Scott as you and my son-in-law are happy for two reasons one being the win and the door for DF. Mack is back as OU is now beating him again and two straight losses to A&M. I didn't see all the game as I was watching maybe the best football player in American gut a good LSU defense. McFadden is dynamite and did it on a huge stage yesterday.<br/>

Waiting for the 7:00 matchup tonight KU/Missouri.</t>

    Gonzo.

<t>Are you nipping this early in the morning? No way the Huskers go near DF. They know up there after kicking BC to the street they have to get it right. This should be interesting.</t>
