Lou Holtz' pep talk to Notre Dame prior to the Duke game (From ESPN)

Men I don't want to be critical but it is time we face realityfor the past 9 weeks people have inspected us, dissected us, rejected us, disgust us, and discussed us to absolutely no avail. Every week we say it is going to get better next week. It's like a guy who fell out of a 20 story building and as he went by each floor he was saying "Hey, I'm doing okay so far". Men we have to make some changes and you say oh boy but coach the teams we play against are really fired up to play Notre Dame. I understand that, but hello, you get to represent Notre Dame and theres no greater motivating factor than to represent the Fighting Irish. When people beat Notre Dame and it isn't a big deal, that is when we have to check our low hold card and now is the time to do it. I've heard so many players say "I want to be happy". You want to be happy for a day? Eat a steak! You want to be happy for three days? Buy a car. You want to be happy for a week? Take a cruise. You want to be happy for a year? Win the lottery. But if you want to be happy for a lifetime, win a national championship for Notre Dame. Oh, we can't win it today, no, but we can take the first step on our goal to win the national championship and when you wlak out of this locker room, you are going to hit a sign, a tradition at Notre Dame, "Play Like a Champion Today". I want you to understand what hittin that sign means. It means, we make a commitment to represent this university. What does Notre Dame stand for? It stands for intelligence, play smart, it stands for togetherness, and family.

Don't let your teammates down, care about them, help them up. It stands for excellence and whatever we do we do it with a class that represents faith. You always have a faith. You always find a way to succeed and you have a pride in this university. PRIDE stands for Personal Responsibility In Daily Excellence.

Men, we want to send a message to this world today. When you play Notre Dame you bring two things with you. 1. You better bring your lunch because it is going to be a full day for ya. 2. The other thing you better bring is your pain pills cause we are gonna hit you from the time you step off the bus until the time you step back on the bus. It's time we put Notre Dame back where it belongs. We have talent here, that is not the case. It's a matter of commitment to excellence.

    Let's go.

I watched it. It fired me up. I'll be at the game tomorrow with my son-in-law and two oldest grandsons. The weather forecast sucks.

    Saw it too....He's the man!

Can't see the stoic Weis ever duplicating what Holtz can do in that regard.

I just got up, ran across the family room and leveled my wife. I think I'm in trouble.

LOL! To quote one of the many famous lines from Animal House, each week it's.....Thank you sir. May I have another.

That pep talk made me feel good. I'll be at the game today. Hopefully I'll feel good afterward.

On another subject, John Goodman's team lost last night to a relentlessly strong defensive team that allowed them only 7 points. I discovered much to my chagrin that he's human.

I saw where they asked Weis last week about his team's execution....and he replied "I'm all in favor it"......

Love that old line from John McKay...

Ugh, as a Buc season ticket holder from 1976 - 1992, I remember that quote and the McKay days. Another good one was after one of the first 26 losses he told the team the bus was leaving in an hour, anyone needing a shower should take one.

Another time he told the media during a press conference that they didn't know the difference between a football and a box of bananas. After someone in the media delivered a bunch of bananas to One Buc Place, he was quoted as saying the press needed to learn the difference between a bunch of bananas and a Mercedes.
