And so I said yes. (long and probably boring)

There are many reasons why I said “yes” but AJ was certainly one of them.

The story stars a few weeks ago and it is probably boring to many of you. My son Mike , “Commish” to many of you works for Time, Life in newsstand distribution. He currently has 3 brands, Sports Illustrated, SI for Kids and Golf Magazine.
He’s become acquainted with the editorial staff of Golf and has helped them by doing presentations that show how they can improve their newsstand sales by how they handle their cover articles. He got invited to play golf with the editor and one of the writers last month. Mike struck up a conversation with the writer who explained that his job was to travel to various locations, play courses and then write about the courses and area. Needless to say, Mike told him he might have the best job in the whole world. The writer told Mike that after a while the travel gets to him.
So there they were after the round having a few adult beverages. The golf writer asks his editor what he’d think of Mike taking the trip he’d planed for later this month and writing the article. The editor asks Mike if he’d like to do it and Mike of course tells him “yes.”
Mike calls and tells me the story. He has one regret, he would hate to be playing these courses alone for a week and a half and wishes he had someone going with him. I ask if that includes dad, and he says it does. I think about it for a millisecond and I agree.
And so Thanksgiving afternoon, I’m headed to LA where I’ll be meeting up with Mike and then flying out to New Zealand. On the menu Kauri Cliffs

We’ll have a couple of days to spend mingling with the real media at the New Zealand Open in Queenstown. We’re back on Dec. 3rd.
And so this Friday when I turn 60 I know that there’s life after 60 at least for a few weeks. And AJ when I tee off on the first hole on the first day, I’ll be thinking of you and how precious this opportunity is.
