Yeah. The previous low was 2-8 back in '56 & '60. In 1887 the Irish went 0-1 so I guess that's is technically the worst season. I'm beginning to worry about our bowl prospects.
Charlie has guided this team to all kinds of records is year; all time BAD records. I know you guys ared laying all this at the doorstep of the miserable 5th year seniors but ask yourselves, if they did not want to play in the first place why did they return? As a HC, Charlie can't cut it. And he never will.
With the exception of Carlson who wouldn't have been the first TE taken the rest probably wouldn't have been drafted at all. It was another shot to prove their talent. They still won't be drafted.
I don't want to invite argument here but it seems to me that most good coaches out there in the NCAA would not be where Chollie is at right now. There must be enough talent at ND to beat AF and Navy. The schedule has not been kind to be sure but the margin of defeats is surprising. The Irish aren't even in most games and I question that this team buys into what Weis is coaching. I'll bet the powers that be at ND are wondering why they gave him that extension.
Unlike you, I don't know the buyout provisions of the extension CW got. I do know that the BCS money that they got for the 2 straight bowls that they were in more than paid for his contract. So I'd say that the extension was a non-issue. For some reason though, some types are fixated on that. Probably get it from the constant harping by the media.
about other coaches <t>it could be said that they never would have had the first two seasons Charlie had.<br/> <br/> I do not buy it that its 'clear' he can't cut it at ND.<br/> <br/> In fact, I think he will be just fine.<br/> <br/> You can either say the last two seasons were a fluke, or you can suck it up and admit that all the warning signs that folks had been telling us about for years finally came home to roost.<br/> <br/> This game, was totally on the players. 100%. I think Chuckles made mistakes this year that will be corrected.<br/> <br/> I think he didn't realize, or truly appreciate, how a short stacked deck can lead you into a hell hole of a year. Now he does.</t>
This guy doesn't have a clue what to do. The team looks progressively worse each week. The only reason we beat UCLA was because they had to resort to a walk-on QB due to injuries. That win was a complete fluke. He came in here and made two promises; first, this team would be nasty. Second, he said that if the game got down to Xs and Os we would win because nobody could game plan as well as he can. I think we can lay those two myths to rest. I was like you guys, desperate for success on the field and ready to embrace any coach who's initials weren't BD or TW. But I don't need to be kicked in the nuts any more to see the light. His record is now worse than Ty's. And, while I'm ranting, can we stop calling Corwin Brown a defensive visionary. His defense is like shredded wheat. The fronts of their jerseys should read "Welcome" and the backs "Kick Me". Thanks, I feel better now. But it could be the beer 8)
Call 'em like I see 'em, Jif. You can wish in one hand and crap in the other.... which one do you think fills up first?
I'm .... <t>Amazed no mention of the "guys up front" and another sterling performance Saturday. Few holes to run and last time I looked six more sacks. Duncan was the culprit in two of them with his matadore blocks again. Nobody on this line can hold a block, nobody. It's just amazing to watch how slow the entire group is.<br/> <br/> Anyone but me still shaking their heads at how wide open the AF receivers were all day? Besides Smith and Neal not a linebacker playing can make a stop except 5-10 yards down the field. This is a broken record every week but just two more to go.</t>
well George <t>we're going to have to agree to disagree.<br/> <br/> On offense, I saw play after play that should have gone for much more. There's no myth to that X and O stuff. Those plays were there and they were there all night. The players have to execute.</t>
 I agree with Corey/Gipper and others who support our coach. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t. The cupboard was left bare and no amount of cursing, hand-wringing, coach firing or player shuffling will change that until it fills up again. When Sullivan and Olsen went down on the same play, they were replaced by another sophomore who wasn't quite ready and a transfer from effing Northwestern... Why would anyone be surprised that this year's Air Force team would easily defeat this year's Irish team? I question how much some of these people even know about Notre Dame football and I already knew that they didn't know anything about western football...
I repeat, it's not the losses. Its the total ass whippings, the Keystone Cop play of the offense, the matador defense, the horrendous special teams, the zombie like crowd, the look of a team mailing it in week after week, watching Clausen collapse in the pocket in the face of the rush. It all goes back to the coach. You can't fire the team. He has almost three full classes on that team. He has team that is 1-9 and should be a perfect 0-10. A team that regresses every week. Charlie has won ONE big game in three years.... Michigan in his second game. Every other big time opponent has crushed us. The first two years were a mirage...five players on offense who would earn checks on Sundays covered the shortcomings that now have been laid bare. Now everybody has their way with us. This guy is no head coach.
 He had two full recruiting classes; not three. He took over in January three years ago after the Patriots season was done. He had just enough time to pick up a few scraps that had been left on the table before the February deadline. Turkovich and Duncan were two of them, or we wouldn't have any linemen in the junior and senior classes combined. All of Charlie's guys are freshmen and sophomores. They're a JV team that will get better as they get older. BTW- I haven't seen any of these kids "mailing it in", but I've seen them playing their hearts out under the most difficult circumstances in the history of the school. Clausen has been especially courageous in the face of certain blitzes and sacks by every team he sees. If the crowds are zombies, that says something about us, not the players or coaches. BTW again- What do you call a fan who calls our teenagers "Keystone Cops?" The Fighting Irish built their reputation by overcoming impossible odds when Knute Rockne was there and they'll do it again starting now. Just keep laughing. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. .......JO'Co
Did.. <t>Anyone watch the ease AF went down the field after the Carlson fumble?<br/> No fire at all with that bunch. That is just one sad example of this bunch playing the season out. I have never called for Charlie's dismissal but there are serious danger signs the worst being this teams gets no better in any phase by the week. This is gut wrenching for me but I refuse to gloss over the abysmal play.<br/> I will be in front of the set at 1:30 Saturday watching but am far from expecting a solid performance much less a win.</t>
I'm not convinced that the team has thrown in the towel. They are just a bad team right now, I worry it's the coaching and preparation of the team. Even if they do beat Duke and somehow find away to beat Stanford. I'm not sure what I see to give me hope that we will be an 8 or 9 win team next year. 2008 certainly will be the key year in Charlies career at ND.
STOP blaming the coaches!!! Get some kids into the program..lower the scholastic standards...how come nobody understands that?????
