I'm ticked off. Two new coaches of ND's longtime rivals, MSU and BC, seem to be pretty cool guys. I like what I've heard so far from Dantonio and it ticks me off that I do. I want to dislike him and the BC coach, but so far I can't. I hope they do or say something to change my mind. Grrrrrrrrr! :?
Yep, Terry, I am glad to see you embrace the Sparties as a fine role model for sportsmanship. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9wzrJhnxh8 Isn't Jehuu, featured in the article you posted, one of the flag planters?
I just opened the picture you posted and it shows 3 Michigan State players but I don't see anything unusual. What was that supposed to show?
I reposted the link. The other picture was of three players that the former MSU coach had stand at midfield after MSU's loss to ND last year to prevent a revenge flag planting.
Bobda, Please don't mistake my comments about the MSU coach as respect for the Spartans. It will be a long, long time before I can forget the flag planting incident. Thanks a bunch for reminding me.
I was at the ND-MSU game this year. I watched the MSU team especially after the game. They shook hands with ND players and then joined their fans at one corner of the end zone and sang their fight song. No flags, no trash talking no ********. I credit Dantonio with the new discipline. They worry me. (of course right now Air Force and Duke worry me.) Don't sell them short.
BobDa, there is a new sheriff in town....during his tenure with Tressel and in Columbus, Dantonio was a stand-up, no bullsh!t, hard-nosed coach who preached discipline and effort. I just don't think you'll see that crap coming from Sparty in the future....I could be wrong, but I don't think so....time will tell.
I guess my point was that he was pretty lathered up by some of the things the Wolverines said and did during and after the game. Also that he'd been better off to not have commented on them IMHO.
There are a lot of seniors on M with big mouths. They can stir up opponents all they want. They won't be there next year.
Terry, far be it from me to chime in on matters relating to MSU, but as far as his candid comments, I don't have a problem with it. Think about it. He has to battle M for in-state recruits......and probably some from out of state, especially in Ohio. By throwing down verbally with M, he is sending a loud and clear message to these recruits that MSU is going to go nose-to-nose with their instate rival and expects to come out on top. I'll bet it pays off for him in his recruiting. I don't believe it was an emotional tirade. I believe his comments were planned and executed exactly as he intended.
Sid, I agree 100%. I think Hart gave him an early xmas present. He needed to stir the passions of the faithful - of which there are many - make Sparty relevant again in the Big 10 discussion and I think he is on his way.....I liken it to Tressel's introduction in Columbus at halftime of a basketball game where, at center court, mike in hand he said, to paraphrase ",.....you'll be proud of your these players, in the classroom, in the community and also 311 days from now in Ann Arbor!" The long-suffering crowd went berserk and the rest is history....I loved it! 8)
BuckeyeT....1) you can hardly describe Ohio State fans as long suffering Cooper had some great teams just 1 flaw and 2) after that speech at the baseketball game has JT ever said anything even remotely close to what Dantoni said in his post game?
TOK, no question Coop had some great football teams, several of which had good shots at the NC......but for the Stripeheads. Coop was 2-10-1 -v- M, so, yes indeedy, as it relates to M, we were long suffering and in Columbus, if M is the reason you are long suffering, then long suffering you are.....! The point was that unlike Coop who tried to avoid the M hype, Tressel not only embraced it, but made it clear that it was his focus....in January! He threw down the gauntlet to his kids, the Buckeye Nation and M and said "game on!". The following November, in AA with an big underdog squad, he sealed the deal with a W. No he did not say anything remotely close to what Coach D said, but that is not his nature. I think Coach D did the same thing, but in his own way.
I think what got under Michigan's players skin was not Dantonio's focus on the Micgigan game as the key game but his crack about the need "for a moment of silence" after hearing about M's loss to App State. That prompted the "moment of silence" celebration after the MSU game by various players. I don't recall Carr, or Tressel for that matter, cracking jokes about losses suffered by other rivals since both, I think, go out of their way to avoid bulletin board material.
