This is long but IMO worth the read.

It seems to me he would be worth $13 million for one season for two reasons: 1) He still has some decent - not great - pitching left in him, and perhaps more important, 2) If the Red Sox are going to bring up young pitchers for the future (Lester, Bucholz, etc.) who better to mentor them for a season?

I'd like to see Schilling stay, and finish his career in Boston. Still, he could probably be more successful on a National League team next season.

As far as Lowell, the Sox have got to re-sign him.

Should he not re-sign with Boston, here's Schilling's list of preferred teams from his blog:

Cleveland, Detroit, Anaheim, New York Mets, Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A., S.D., Arizona, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis, Milwaukee

Lot of National League teams. That he considers them all to have the potential to play into October next season speaks to how wide open the NL is.

I wonder what he's got against the Astros. We have been a haven for old pitchers. :?

I don't get it....Why say goodbye, letters to teammates....etc..... Unless Sox brass said something to him, why not try to sign him again???? He said they would get a home discount and only wants a year contract. To me it's easy, resign him one more year.
