Are We that good...or is the National League that bad?? LOLOLOL! Let the parades and celebrations begin in New England!!
I'm guessing Jon Lester's girlfriend, if not wife. Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lester - what a group of rookies, eh? And how about the rest of the Sox homegrown talent - Youk and Papelbon? Looking good.
Certainly an excellent nucleus of solid young talent meshed with strong leadership from Big Papi, Manny (yes, a leader!), Schilling, and Beckett (time to consider Beckett a seasoned veteran). I'd like to see them keep Lowell but his timing may be too good.....WS MVP in his free agent year. If Dice-K can improve about 25%, if Lester, Buchholz et all can live up to their potential, and if Pap, Okie et all can avoid serious injury, watch out. Almost forgot....an excellent manager. As someone said on TV, this team is built for the long haul.
It all starts with the ownership group that has made the Sox a winner and doubled (I believe) the club's value. Tito, like Torre, had a losing record as a manager before he was selected to manage a team with a truckload of money for a payroll. I'm not diminishing what he's done in any way - I think he is a very good manager - but it sure helps to have all that talent and a rabid fan base.
Gee, Joel! Do I detect a subtle indication that you might not want A-rod on your team? What does the "F" stand for?
Sid. As I have been writing on a few Sports boards ( as only I can do) for the last 3 years,,,Payrod is a curse! Ive named it THE CURSE OF PAYROD! No team ever has, nor ever will, get a ring with the man. It is a curse worse then THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO! Further more, the Curse will live on for many years even after Payrod departs NY. So to answer your question, Lowell is without a doubt The Red Sox MVP and if I were voting, the league MVP!.. ) sorry..now what was your question again?) jiffer
Joel, On my way in this morning, I heard a replay of Peter Gammons' postgame comments last night. He lambasted Arod for the horrible timing of the announcement and for his and his agents' self-centeredness. His comments made yours sound like a tribute. Maybe someone here is techno-capable of finding and cutting/pasting Gammons' comments onto this topic. I'm not. I don'y think Arod will be inviting Gammons to dinner anytime soon.
Sid , local sports talking heads are saying the same thing. If you have time go to WEEI and listen in to some talk. I cant imagine anyone going for Payrod with his Big Game Background! jif
Here you go, Sid... Gammons unhappy with A-Rod’s timing (ESPN) As we mentioned earlier in The Snooze, the timing of Alex Rodriguez’s decision to opt out of his contract was quite curious (it was in the middle of Game 4 of the World Series when FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal jumped in with the news). ESPN baseball analyst Peter Gammons agreed with us: why make the decision public during the World Series? He has 10-days after the Fall Classic to opt out of the remaining $91 million due to him. After discussing the list of suitors for his services, Gammons fired his shot: “What’s unfortunate here is the total disrespect for the game of baseball. This is the World Series. [Boston’s] Dustin Pedroia and Jon Lester are doing what Alex has never done: playing in a World Series game. And to want the attention on this day is kind of a sad commentary and it might be a bit of a ‘buyer beware,’ because, again, he’s never played in a World Series game…maybe there’s a reason.”
Way to go Rick! You're my hero. I knew you'd come through. Thanks. I'm glad to be able to see his face as he spoke. You could see him tense up as he talked. He obviously was very upset, which is dangerous for him, being only a couple of years removed from a stroke.
You're right, Sid. I just watched it again and you can see his jaw clench and his head jerk as he shifts into his commentary about the timing of the announcement. It appears as though he catches himself and backs off toward the end. How do you really feel, Peter?
