Derek Jeter is 1/2 of the reason why I have respected the Yankees for the past 12 or so years. His public comments below reconfirm for me that he is a first-class guy speaking about a first-class guy. BTW, the way this entire episode was handled tells me that Yankee management personnel all the way up to the "Boss" are a bunch of arrogant idiots who are in charge of a gold mine that makes millions in spite of their incompetent leadership. Other than that, it's a fine organization. :?

Sounds like Jeter turned another double play.

My guess is that he needed some time to get over his anger at Yankee management for the bungling way they handled the situation. Another possibility is that he needed time to come up with the proper words to express his feelings. In any event, for someone like me who likes and respects both Torre and Jeter, it was worth waiting for.

The prevailing opinion among the local press is that A. Jeter is quiet by nature, not prone to voicing his opinion and B. he is regarded as the ultimate "company man".

The sting of Torre's departure is already waning. Rivera said yesterday that it doesn't matter to him who the manager is, that the Yankees have always treated him right and he hopes for that to continue.

That is a complete 180 from what he said ten days ago.

    It's a business.

Amen, George. Amen. No one understands that better than an entrepreneur like you who owns his own business. Regardless of my "baseball" feelings, the above quote is the bottom line.
