In the middle of the worst season in decades and just when I thouht things couldn't get any worse, it actually got BETTER. I thought I knew a lot about recruiting but the commitment from this kid assures me that I don't. We may end up with worst record in 40 years but still haul in the number one recruiting class.

Wide receiver Mike Floyd has committed to Notre Dame.

"Yeah, I committed this weekend," Michael Floyd said as we spoke to him as he was boarding his plane home from his official visit to Notre Dame this weekend.

The 6-3, 210-pound five-star prospect says it was both football and education that sold him on Notre Dame.

"The education you get at Notre Dame is much better than most schools. Having both the big-time football and the education is what really sold me on Notre Dame," Floyd said.

Floyd also said hanging out with his future teammates was a big factor.

"I was able to meet more of the guys this weekend, and I got along really well with all of them," he said. "I got to know the guys in the freshman class, and some of the recruits committed in this class."

How does it feel to have the recruiting process over?

"It feels real good knowing that I have a school now," he said. "I'm going to help them bring this back and I'm going to get a great degree."

It was a surprise to me as well, I felt like the really bad season esp on offense combined with Carfuel quiting the team (he went to Floyds HS) and the fact that Ohio State is having such a great season would result in him going to Ohio State. I had even read that he and the QB from PA Terrelle Pryor were both silent commits to Ohio State.

Glad to have something good come out of the weekend.

Kenneth Page was also at the game and seemed to think very highly of everything about the school and the program.

LOL! Couldn't let this one pass by. I think it was an unintentional misspelling, but given your sense of humor I wonder if you are saying that he left because he ran out of gas?

    unintentional Sid

BTW the reasons supposedly that he left ND was that he never felt comfortable at ND, didn't make any friends etc. It's not like the kid was from a rural southern town or an urban ghetto. He was a white kid from a Catholic High School in Minnesota. If he can't fit in at ND who the heck can fit in??

Jonas Gray a Mich RB who is currently commited to Neb also visited and showed some interest. He didn't decomit from Neb but he did say he was looking at the situation at Neb, whatever that means.

He'd be a nice pickup. As would Trevor Robinson the Neb OL, but I think that UM is our competition for Trevor not Neb.

The new commit is nice but let's just remember we felt that way about Carufel when he committed and the more stars the bigger the potential disappointment.

<t>It doesn't bother me that much that Carafel(excuse my spelling) transfered. I think we have had 3 transfer from the soph class now of which we started with 28. I now understand why is is probably better not to take more than 25 per class. The truth is that for the most part the transfers are from guys who a getting beat out at their position! What can you say. We knew we would lose a QB especially with Crist coming next year and we are definately loaded at tight end. It does hurt to lose a OL but that's his choice. I wish him luck. <br/>

I think as ND fans we are just not use to seeing as many transfers as we have this year. Let's face it though, it happens all the time a at other major schools.</t>

    After..

<t>Watching the clips of Gray run and the offers he had from the likes of Florida and Mich etc I really hope we land the kid. CW just has to get two more OL in this class as well then do something about his line coach.</t>

A slight diversion from the topic but still involving a ND recruit. Our local Ft. Wayne boy and ND WR recruit, John Goodman, was selected to the all-city team at the QB position, which was no surprise. My son met and talked at length with him recently and came away impressed. Here is a quote from him when interviewed about his all-city selection. This is the kind of kid I want on my team........

Must be quite an athlete and a great kid to boot.

    I'm glad we have him.

Well Jonas Gray has decomitted from Nebraska, Irish are one of his leaders, he's the #13 rated RB in Scout. The rumours are also heating up that Texas RB Cyrus Gray (#11 RB) is also on the radar.

It would be nice to get both of these guys, plus 2 more OL's (Page and Robinson) along with another WR from the group of Baldwin/Walker/G.Robinson.

That would pretty much be a full class I think (25) and assure us of a top 5 finish in the rankings...for whatever it's worth.

But mainly it will finally get the team back up to strenght in terms of scholarship players. I think this year the roster almost looks like we were on probation and had scholarship reductions.

Well if Gray has decommited from Neb you can probably bet that Callahan is gone. I would imagine the QB will also be doing the same soon also.</t>

Right On! I may be the eternal optomist like the kid who entered a room full of horse manure and said "There must be a pony in here someplace." But CW did a good job when he had the horses and now we are filling positions with Freshmen and Sophomores. TW only recruited two OLs total in his last two classes. Sucess is talent times coaching. The best coach is not going to succeed with inexperienced 18/19 year old players. There is a reason, as someone said on another board, for Div II and III classifications. When CW got Quinn, Samardzija and Stoval he got production out of them that TW did not. BTW, Steve Kelley, Seattle Times, who blasted ND for firing TW insinuating it was racist motivated, remarked about TW's apparent inability to entice enough talent to UW. Dawgman.Com went balistic when their AD suggested that UW could not be expected to get players garnered by such as the Oregon Ducks. His record at Vanderbilt was less then stellar. There is a reason why CW has been a success at every level. He will get it done.

Amazing. With all that's been discussed and written about TW's poor recruiting, I did not realize that. Thanks, Vic.

    Only

<t>Six in three years so I read and that is an obvious killer but giving up 39 sacks and no signs of improvement in eight games speaks loudly of another problem. CW has to get this fixed.</t>

It's offical, Irish Illustrated has reported Jonas Gray has commited to Notre Dame. Great get for the Irish. He was the Rivals #1 rated player in Michigan.

Can you believe Charlie got these two guys after the game we played vs USC and the way the season has gone? Could he be Gerry Faust when it comes to recruiting?

    No...

<t>I cannot believe it but then from everything I read they have been so organized since last year and the addition of C. Brown is off the charts with these guys so the payoff looks huge if they can hold them. Floyd was a surprise to me and with the problems we have getting open he looks like a great prospect.</t>
