So someone noticed that 4 SEC teams are in the top 15 of the initial BCS standings.

    Neat.

The Pac10 has 4 teams too despite having fewer teams in the conference.

What does this mean? Jack. Oregon is ranked ahead of Cal... and Cal fell huge in the polls... somehow it seems that only excuses are made for the nation's 'premier' conference when their front runners lose.

Auburn beat Florida but is ranked behind them as well. I guess winning at the Swamp doesn't hold the same market value as losing at LSU does. *yawn*

I hope Auburn topples LSU this weekend, or Bama does it the next.

Here's to hoping for a South Florida vs Kansas title game.

    ..

<t>any less boring that a 2 loss conference champ?

The only way those two get there is unbeaten, and to do that, there won't be much left to say.</t>

I agree on there being a paucity of zero loss teams at the end but Ohio State just may pull it off if they can beat UM in Ann Arbor.

I think you have some bitterness Corey!

I see Ohio State in the BCS Championship game and S. Florida has a heck of a shot to make it.

And by the way, Auburn is ranked lower that Florida mostly because they lost to Miss State, but f they win out there's a good chance of a matchup in Atlanta.

If Florida and Auburn were matched up again who do you think would win?

I never thought I would have to give the Pac-10 respect but I have to admit that the Pac-10 is a close second to the SEC in conference strength, IMO. I like Oregon's team alot and I feel like Cal isn't done yet either and would be ranked possibly number 1 if not for the inexperience of a redshirt freshman QB. I like their team. They have lots of speed and an excellent QB when Longshore is healthy.

On the other hand, how deep is the Pac-10 really? UCLA got pasted by UTAH. I'm not sold on the strength of the conference from top to bottom but think it compares favorably at the top with most conferences. I like the SEC from top to bottom much better. And yes, I would rather see a 2 loss Florida or LSU in the NC game than a 1 loss West Virginia or South Florida. Better yet, I'd like to see a 2 loss Florida team take on a 1 loss OSU in the NC game. Let's see how that rematch would turn out.

Nope ... it's going to be a UF - Illinois (bowl) matchup in Tampa or Orlando.

    Gaterz,

If Fla loses another game then you will be right.

That includes the SEC title game if UF makes it.

I think Florida is good enough to win the rest of their games but I remain concerned about SouCar.

At 9-3 UF would be lucky to make Orlando but they could because it has been awhile since the Gators played there.

    nope

<t>no bitterness Bill, I just think this system sucks.

As for an Auburn-UF matchup....given that they've beaten you the last two times you've played, in consecutive years, both home and away... I gotta go with the Tigers here.

I mean, seriously, how much of this game is played on paper?

While the loss to Miss State has to hurt them, the 'Dogs are on the cusp of being a bowl eligible team in the vaunted SEC.

I actually detest Cal, but I don't think they've received fair treatment at all. Like I said, some teams seem appear to have excuses made for them by the pollsters while others do not. With Cal slipping down so far, there is a very real chance they could win out and not have any title shot at all, while a 2 loss team from the SEC is still very much in the hunt. That's insane.

Even within the majors there is hypocrisy. Oklahoma stands a shot at an NC with 1 loss, but a Kansas does not.

This system blows.</t>

Geez Corey, you need to relax and enjoy life!

I'll keep in mind what you said about taking Auburn if they would get lucky and win the West and we would get lucky and win the East.

    who said

<t>I am not relaxed and enjoying life?

Just because I believe the system sucks doesn't mean that I don't enjoy life. I spent a fantastic weekend with my son. Some things in life suck quite a bit at the moment but I am enjoying every last bit of them. Colorectal cancer scares do that to you.

But let's get back on topic, I dont want to 'knee cap' the topic...

Given that Auburn has beaten you this year, and last year...both at their place and yours.. really the only thing you've got working in your favor is the '3rd time is the charm' scheme.

That's why they play the games on the field, allegedly.

No slight on the Gators. Hell, I thought you'd win each of the last two.. but just like my Irish with the Trojans, Eagles or even Wolverines.. sometimes you gotta suck it up and admit they beat you.

I do admire your 'do not go quietly into that good night' spirity though.</t>

Corey, I'm certainly not in denial that Auburn beat us, I was sitting right there and saw the whole thing.

As far as never stay die, we have a very good chance to win the East. We need to win our games and hope Tennessee loses one. If they do not then Tennessee will win the East.

Auburn may give LSU all they can handle. In watching that Auburn team I can't get a handle on them. So far they have played their game of the year against us, let's see if they can handle an angry LSU team.

And as far as Mississippi State goes, I hope they go to a bowl.

Dang Corey ... what's with the hate towards UF????

AFA UF's chances in another game vs AU, I'd say they would be pretty good as AU didn't really dominate the Gators in either of the last two games. Heck, just a little improvement in the punting in both games .... could very well have resulted in UF victories. But if you make those sort of mistakes, you're probably going to lose.

    ....

    <t>Bill,

I thought Auburn's best defensive game was against Arkansas honestly. They shut down both RBs. I think they played their best offensive game against you guys. With the Tigers, it really gets down to whether or not their QB protects the ball and makes good reads.. Their WRs are open, he just has to pick the right one. Also, don't forget that Auburn just got a LOT better in the running game with the arrival of their academic scholar TB Lester.

Gaterz,

There's no hate. They beat you guys twice. Bill asked me what I thought if the two played in a re-match, and honestly.. They've beaten you guys twice. The win in the Swamp was a game that Auburn controlled almost from start to finish...and that was a game Florida got all the calls (thus effectively killing MCG's 'their all in cahoots' theory of Bammer refs controlling the SEC).

So while my impulsive reaction to Bill's question is to agree with Bill, my head tells me otherwise.</t>

Every game I have complained about SEC homer/hater officiating against Florida has been on the SEC road except the 2003 FSU ACC ref called game in the Swamp.

And really there have only been a handful of those over the years even though it seems like a lot because I have also chimed in when I see ref bias in other SEC games not involving Florida.

Last year LSU at Auburn was a good example of that. This year KSU at Auburn is a good example and in fact...every year there is one or two at Auburn where the Tigers royally job their opponents so give me a break on Auburn...they don't deserve a break in officiating anytime....anywhere.

If...IF... Florida makes it back to the SEC title game and I think the Gators have the talent to do it then my money is on Meyer. He has proven to coach up big in games like that and it took five 4th down plays by LSU and a last second kick by Auburn to beat UF. If those are the only losses UF incurs then that exceeds what I thought UF would be capable of doing this season ( in spite of the shrill inflated opinion of the Gators you and Jo'Co keep wanting to pin on me).

If Florida loses another game however....and PLEASE NOTE....they very well could in MY opinion.....then UF settles in to more the kind of season I hoped would not happen but that wouldn't surprise me given the youth of the team.

    no Bobda

<t>we've beaten them all recently. In fact, all 3 last year.

MCG, I'd say that you guys received some officiating breaks in that Auburn game.. have we checked the family trees on those guys?

Regardless, this BCS system blows.

What if OSU wins out but gets beaten by Michigan with Michigan crowned B10 champ and all other major conference champs have 2 losses? Oh the horror.</t>
