Well the Trogs are supposedly pretty banged up right now and I haven't heard wheter Booty will be back or wheter we'll see Sanchez. I hope our defense continues to play well that right now is the only positive we have going for ourselves. I watched the BC game tape last night and Sharpley was the beneificary of a couple of dropped INT's by BC which would have killed his drives and also a couple of those roughing the QB calls were pretty close. So I'm not esp hopefull that starting him will solve our offensive problems, the only thing that is going to do that is quantum leap in the OL play and a running game. Terry
I'm hearing Sanchez will start at QB. Also that Maulauga is out at MLB and pssibly Sam Baker on the O-Line. If we get several turnovers we can be in it. If not, fasten your chin strap and take some Dramamine.
Maybe all of those 9 HS AA RBs will run into each other during a drill and be out for our game, and they'll have to use a walk-on RB. Ya think? :roll: Just like the week preceding our first 7 games, I'm ever-hopeful.
USC REPORT USC's Booty to try throwing with a glove Quarterback will don a receivers glove in an effort to protect broken finger. By Gary Klein, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer October 16, 2007 USC quarterback John David Booty could become the gloved one today in an effort to possibly regain his starting position for Saturday's game against Notre Dame. Booty sat out the Trojans' 20-13 victory over Arizona because of a broken middle finger on his throwing hand and watched sophomore Mark Sanchez overcome a rough first half to lead the Trojans to victory. Booty did not throw any balls Monday, but said he would probably don a receivers glove today to cushion his finger when he throws passes for the first time since last week. "If I can throw I'm going to play, that's where I am," Booty said. "That's where I have to be. Obviously, it's coach's decision, not mine, but I'm going to come out here and if I can throw and be effective, I want to play." Coach Pete Carroll reiterated that Sanchez would enter today's practice as the projected starter. "It's Mark's day," Carroll said. "Mark's on it and then we'll see what happens with John. That's the best way, the only way, I know how to do this right now. And we'll just take the information in as we get it." After the Arizona victory, Sanchez credited Booty for helping and encouraging him between series. Booty said he offered Sanchez advice about managing the huddle, motivating linemen and shaking off turnovers. But he acknowledged, "It just about drove me crazy sitting over there on the sideline." Booty said he had seen New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisbergerwear gloves on their throwing hands in cold weather. Booty said he would have to adjust to the glove's stickiness. "You wonder sometimes how a receiver ever drops a ball," he said. Linebacker Rey Maualuga is probably out and linebacker Brian Cushing could finally be in the lineup against Notre Dame. Maualuga was scheduled to have an MRI exam on his injured hip Monday night. School officials list the injury as a hip pointer, but Maualuga scoffed at that characterization, saying he heard a pop when he was injured and that he knew his body best. Asked if he could play Saturday, Maualuga said, "I can't jog without it being painful so I don't know. Hopefully [today] it will all change." Cushing practiced for the first time in weeks and said his heavily taped ankle was free of pain. Carroll said Cushing could start and share time with Clay Matthews on the strong side with Thomas Williams at middle linebacker and Keith Rivers on the weak side. USC's athletic department balanced its budget for the fifth year in a row, said Steve Lopes, senior associate athletic director. Lopes, citing a report schools are required to file by each Oct. 15 as part of the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act of 1994, said USC reported total expenses and revenues of $76.4 million, an increase of about $11 million from the previous year. The football program generated $31.7 million in revenues on expenses of $18.7 million. Athletic department revenue from sources such as donations and endowment income was $38.3 million, about $5 million more than the previous year, Lopes said. Tailback Stafon Johnson (foot) did not participate in team drills, but said he would try to play Saturday. . . . Offensive tackle Sam Baker (hamstring) says he intends to play.
I think the key factor is can Charlie get the team up to play a big emotional game. He said they were down after the BC game, and they should be since they were actually in the game late. If they get that score to go 27-21 who knows maybe we win, maybe not of course but still. This is a big test for Charlie, they need to play well and make it a game and have a chance to win. That's what it's all about, it's your biggest rival if he can't get the team up for this game, then he's toast. Terry
Hey BDR, what's your view of USC after watching them vs the Wildcats? They look like the juggernaut of the past couple of years?
They certainly weren't in our game, Terry. They were beat up and lethargic. The victory was obtainable, but Arizona wasn't up to it. The Cats completely abandoned the running game in the second half, making the USC defense's job much easier. Before the game I expected USC to come out fired up and absolutely slaughter Arizona, given the Stanford upset the week before. Boy was I surprised, even despite Grigsby's fumble. By halftime I was hopeful of the upset, and in the third quarter I even began to believe it could happen. But then my companion of the last several years, resignation, gradually enveloped me in its familiar embrace.

Larry, AD Livengood came out the other day and said that Stoops is safe, but then Livengood had also said the same regarding Wackovic before he was canned. There are those speculating on Livengood's own job security, given that he's hired the last two football coaches. There are a lot of fans frustrated with the lack of progress, and Stoops is taking major heat for the team's apparent regression this year. Four strong recruiting classes, 10 returning starters on defense, and we can't beat New Mexico at home. I'm personally frustrated, but I still back the coach. It's his first HC job, and he's certainly had to learn a lot about being the head guy, from on-field demeanor to dealing with coaches and players. I'll be at the Stanford game with my dad on Saturday cheering for the Wildcats, but I'm really, really tired of the current situation.
