Buckeyes come home with a win at Minnesota to remain undefeated. This was our second road win, which makes me happy. Boekman continues to be successful with the long ball for TDs. Wells rushed for over 100 yards for the fourth time this season. Defense limited the the Gophers to one score. Next week at Purdue will be a real challenge. With all the upsets yesterday, I would guess that we will be in the top five, when the polls come out later today. Don
Thngs are laying out quite nicely for Ohio State at this point. Do you see anybody on the schedule you won't be favored against the rest of the year?
Terry as far as the "smart money" crowd will see it outside of TUN (and they have to keep winning BobDa) The "Bucks" probably will be favored....unless someone snuck Florida on our schedule
Terry, We may very well be favored in the remaining games, but Penn State ther will be a toughie, Wisconsin has always been a difficult game for us and Michigan has been waiting since last November to have us in the big house this November. Don
Gerry, Good to hear from you. Looks like all the pre season fare about running the ball this fall was a bit off track. Tod seems to be filling in just fine and gaining confidence. Soft schedule up front has not hurt! Don
Another solid win for this young group....Boeckman continues to play well, make good decisions and shows alot of poise. Beanie - not even close to full strength - is a load and Robiskie is playing at a very high level - certain 1st rounder down the road. The defense is outstanding and will keep them in every game. This is a very young football team and they appear to get better every week....they could be a handful by the end of the year. They are likely to be favored in every game remaining, but as we saw yesterday, there are plenty of hurdles. At Purdue, at Penn St will be tough, tough environments....Wisky, Sparty will by very physical tough football games, the Zooker has his Illini on a roll and the Stripeheads as always a brawl. That's alot of football to be played....young football teams sometimes do silly things - I'd be shocked if they ran the table.....
Buckeye Terry, I too would be shocked if we run the table, however one never knows. It is shaping up to be a very interesting year of college football. Don
One never knows for certain Don.....don't get me wrong, I would be thrilled and stranger things have happened that's for sure....but still, with only 3 seniors in the starting lineup and 5 or so in the two deep it would be an absolutely extraordinary achievement by those kids and this coaching staff.....it's a long, long road. The game at Seattle was a good lesson, but there will be more and tougher road tests. Look out next year though.....
The glass is HALF FULL !!!! <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Terry, The way I see it, there's no dominating team out there. No one will go undefeated. There's a lot of youth among the top 25 teams. I don't think there are any senior laden teams out there. Everywhere you look, the 2 deeps are full of sophs and juniors. <br/> <br/> If the Buckeyes can grind it out 1 game at a time, even with some close calls against inferior competition, they will be in the hunt for the MNC.<br/> <br/> The Bucks solid & potent ground game keeps the D fresh and allows Boeckman time to develop. <br/> <br/> I like your chances.</r>
AJ, there are going to be some battles for certain.....the crowds in W. Lafayette and State College are going to be fired up and want some blood. I hope these young kids - esp the young QB can maintain their poise in adverse conditions. I am more than a little concerned about the running game.....our biggest weapons Beanie Wells is a great, great back for sure but has had a bum left ankle and not been near 100% all year. The freshman Saine just got his knee scoped and Purdue will be his first game back.....I'm not sure these kids will be able to stand up physically under the grind of a long and punishing conference schedule......if the running game stuggles, I not sure that Boeckman and the young receivers can carry the offense. The defense however is another story......I like this group alot. They should be able to keep us in every ballgame barring something extraordinary like special teams meltdowns, an avalanche of turnovers, etc. It's a long, long tough season....
You have a lot of depth @ RB <t>and Saine looks like he's going to be a Heisman candidate someday.<br/> <br/> I can't believe such a big guy is so fast.<br/> <br/> I think the opportunities to sneak in unexpectantly into the MNC game are great this year.<br/> <br/> I like the Buckeyes chances.</t>
things are shaping up nicely for the Buckeyes <t>No spread offenses in sight and everyone in the media seems focused on someone else...<br/> <br/> Like the Jefferson's, they are just movin on up</t>
I have to give you guys your props, you really have it going in the reload and not rebuild category. You might not win the NC this year or anytime soon, but your coach has the program in a position where it will be in the conversation every year. Congrats!
He's not perfect, but I think we'll keep him around. This team has been a pleasant surprise thus far - frankly I thought next year was the year we had a shot at being in the hunt again - we knew the defense was going to be pretty solid, but I hadn't counted on the young QB and receivers playing so well this early.....that said, there are many hurdles ahead and a lot of tough football games and tough crowds to deal with and these kids have ALOT of growing up to do.....
That's a good comparison AJ...Beanie does remind me of Enis. Keeping in mind that Saine is a true freshman and still getting bigger and stronger, the notion that he outruns Teddy Ginn in 100 meters is pretty freaky...like the Charles kid from Texas. TOK, how big was Charles when he was a frosh????
Charles was not physically very big as a frosh, even after 3 years in the program he's 6'1" and 205. I'd say that he was a buck 80 as a frosh. Charles did run track as a freshman and as a soph, I think he's finally done with it, realizing that his bread is going to be buttered by football.
I wasn't quite sure how big Charles was but I knew he could fly. Saine is a good 30-40 pounds heavier and with similar sprinter type jets. He's going to be a load....his only problem is that he's playing behind Beanie Wells.
I know we all like to hear about speed, speed, speed. I think in a RB it's maybe a little overated. Charles is much faster than Cedric Benson was, but Cedric was a more productive RB than Jamall, now if Charles breaks through not many times is he going to be caught but for bread and butter I like backs who are tough and know how to follow their blocks and not afraid to stick their nose into the line. Ricky Williams, again not slow, but not a blazer either, just very productive as a college back.
