    LMAO ROTFL !!

    Gonz, that was pretty good.

You made a list of 15 overrated teams in the top 25.

I looked at each one and found that each of them is head and shoulders better than Miami.

What's up with Shannon's son? He's an all star center for FIU. Is Shannon afraid to send his kids to Thug University? Boy he can sure use a few lineman with jr's skill. Give FIU a couple more years and they will be the fourth best team in Florida behind Central Florida, S. Florida and Florida.

23-9 was a tough game , much tougher than the 59-0 shellacking at the hands of Penn State and much more competitive than Kansas's 55-3 pasting. I know, I know, Oklahoma taught you that you got to take baby steps before you can learn to walk.

Give Florida Atlantic a couple more years and soon it will be Miami and FSU duking it out for last place.

Was up with all these Miami recruits going elsewhere? Even Rutgers is picking your pocket.

Gonz, it's time to pick a new team in Florida.

Hey I’m glad you came back and I was one of those who always supported you. You are a fun guy to have around here and have an uncanny way of injecting some humor on this board.

Good luck to Miami , Shannon looks like a good babysitter and role model. Did you know I rooted for Miami when Coker was the coach? He was such a nice man , class act and a wonderful representative of the University. Anyway good luck, I hope you beat one of those 5-5 ACC conference champions. Who is it going to be this year Wake Forest ? Maryland ? Boston College ? What an exciting wide open race !

    8) AJ....Ah...there you are !!!.....making a rerun of your old and tired logic.

    ---------------
    West Virginia
    California
    Wisconsin
    Oregon
    Rutgers
    Clemson
    Kentucky
    So Carolina
    VaTech
    Missouri
    Penn State
    Hawaii
    Alabama
    Cincinnatti
    Nebraska
    -----------------
Hell yes, I believe Miami can certainly.... even after getting killed by the #1 team in college football..........The Canes can beat any one of the above teams.

If you really knew what you were talking about AJ....you would have noticed that O coordinator Patrick Nix unveiled a set of plays for A & M that were completely new for this season....and......along the lines you don't know a thing about the Canes......you would have noticed QB Kyle Wright played flawless football vs Texas where he hardly played vs Oklahoma.

But hey, those are insignificant bits of information.....as is Scout.com rating Miami at #3 in recruiting already.....since someone who really is in the know would tell you that the #1 HS in the nation....Northwestern High of Miami.....has committed almost its entire team to Shannon next season.

But anyhow...the point is that a Nebraska, Wisconsin, Hawaii, Alabama et al are not good teams.

There are only two real good teams this season....Oklahoma and LSU...strong on both sides of the ball.....all others are pretenders this year.

<r>Don't Cal and Oregon play each other this week? (or at least in the next week or so).<br/>
    <br/>
That sets up a rather convenient 'see I told you they were overrated' article when one of them is sure to lose that game..<br/>

Oklahoma better than LSU and S. Cal?

    Give me a break!

And it does seem to me that Oklahoma did get a chance in a BCS championship game to play both those teams and came up very, very short both times.

    But they did beat FSU.

I don't see Florida ending up in one of the top two spots this year either, the team is way to young, I will be very happy for the Gators to win the SEC East this year.

You need to watch straining your credibility my son!

Gonz, you are so funny. You go from one extreme , [IMG]

    To another:

All because Miami beat an overated and poorly coached ( forgive me Scott) Aggie team.
By all rights they should have whupped Miami with their running game..

It’s gonna be fun watching Mighty Duke give the Canes a battle. Last year Miami barely beat them 20-15. Duke had almost 400 yards against your D. Their QB Lewis should be good for another 300 ++ yards.

Next up is powerful North Carolina. Miami actually has a chance to go 5-1 and a top 25 billing which is why you are saying all those teams are overrated and hoping they fall. Let’s hope Butch Davis doesn’t wake up and take it out against a team he wanted no part of coaching.

Gonz, If Miami can’t win their next 2 games, you should abandon them and root for a different Florida team. May I suggest S. Florida ? Not as close as FIU but at least they are a winner.

    8) AJ.....your superficiality never exceeds its simplicity

Bama is a joke....as Kentucky, Cinci, Nebraska, WVA, So Carolina.

Did you talk about the 1 point win Nebraska had against nobodies?....or PSU losing against a team that lost to a D2 team and was 1-2 with its only W against woefully inept Notre Dame?

Who are you trying to kid here?....there are truly 5 top teams this year with one being far superior to all others (Oklahoma) and LSU in second place.

Florida lost its focus and was very close to a loss and USC looked lethargic again with a sputtering defense.

Why should I even consider changing teams.......lets take a Notre Dame or Ohio State as yardsticks......OSU got an illegimitate NC in '02 and hadn't had one since 1968 and they got blown away by Florida in the NC last season.....ND?....the negatives are so long that it doesn't even merit discussion.....what else you got that makes any sense?

    Gonz,

I checked out these teams and what I found is that offensively:

    Bama is ranked 31st
    Kentucky 10
    Cincy 12
    Nebraska 27
    WVU 9
    Florida 6

I’m still searching for Miami. It may take another post as there are too many teams ahead of them.

Hang in there while I search.

While I do not agree that all of the teams Gonzo mentioned are overrated, I do think the level of mediocrity in college football this year has increased. You know parity is really having a bunch of average teams and I think that's what we're seeing more and more with a couple of notable exceptions, namely LSU and USC with teams like Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia Tech, Auburn, OSU and others jumping into the fray on occasion. I think it's the changing face of the college game.

Here we go! Thanks for your patience! It took a little time to dig it up from the bottom.

On Offensive scoring, Miami is ranked 73rd
On Offensive yardage, Miami is ranked 92nd.
    Defensively they suck @ 39th

As far as ND goes, don’t even go there . At least they have something to look forward to because they ain’t getting any worse. The Buckeyes are the 2002 Champs so don't cry. Nebraska played against one of the better QB's in the country. Do you recall the function of the QB position?
No, no , no !!! He's not the baker who makes turnovers.

Miami still has plenty of room to fall so NOW is a good time to make the switch while no one notices, but you have to avoid seeking attention.

Penn State ? Oh come on! No one is saying they are the best but they will turn in a good year and at least they know how to pulverize a bad team like FIU 59-0. Even Kansas whupped them 55-3 while Miami struggled to eek out a 23-9 victory.

Do you remember the good ole days when Miami used to demolish teams like FIU?

Boy those were the days !

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5pkkAhETYg

You have Duke coming up. In the olden days, this was a 59-0 laugher.
2007 is another matter. It must be painful to watch Miami. Your palms must be sweaty, head full of perspiration, irrate at the refs calls, irrate at Coker who has nothing to do with this years disaster. You are not getting any younger Gonz, so why torture yourself over a 7-14 point win if you are lucky.

Remember last year was only a 20-15 victory.

I'll have to check on Miami's progress this Saturday. If I were you I'd swith to Florida or S. Florida as my team. At least they are in the same state. There's no shame in being a fair weather fan.

Aquila, I'd agree it's very hard to seperate your self from the "good" teams.

You have to really have that combo of superior recruiting and great coaching. USC has really just dominated recruiting since Pete took over out there and Fla maybe on the cusp of doing the same thing as well. I am surprised at LSU, I just don't think of Louisiana as being a state with a ton of talent mainly because they haven't been a dominant team for most of my lifetime, sometimes good to very good but definitely not elite. But for whatever the reason they are producing some great football players and they are staying home. OU as much as I hate Stoops, I think he's just a good coach who given good talent will always win a lot of games.

Aquila, I disagree with the term level of mediocrity. I would call it level of competitiveness. The physical differences are not as great as it used to be and I think that is because the weight training and conditioning at the HS level has finally caught up to the 85 man scholarship limitation. If you look at LSU & USC , sure they have a roster full of NFL types, but their are a lot of team B's whose players may not be 1st round draft choices but are getting looks at the training camps. There's more of a premium on coaching and execution today than ever before. You can't just line up and pulverize an opponent with a huge athletic edge and little skill.

Take a look at New Hampshire, they beat Marshall, one of Miami's victims. They did so on the strength of their QB Santos who is one of the best college QB's in the nation, but will NEVER see an NFL training camp.

There is no "parity" or "level playing field"......But Mediocrity Abounds and fully half of the Top 25 teams, as its easy to see.....are Overrated and far below the trio of Oklahoma (#1) LSU (#2) and USC (a weak #3)

What blows away AJ's logic is simple.......how can you possibly rate a Michigan at #4 and PSU at #10???.....or....don't even go there....how about Louisville at #9...etc....etc......or Arkansas and Tennessee...all in the Top 25.

Besides, who the hell have any of them played as quality opponents?

    West Virginia has played

    Western Michigan
    Marshall
    Maryland
    East Carolina

    Rutgers has played

    Buffalo
    Navy
    Norfolk State

    Cincinnatti has played

    SE Miss State
    Oregon State
    Miami of Ohio
    Marshall

    Hawaii has played

    Northern Colorado
    La Tech
    UNLV
    Chareston Southern

    Woweee !!!!
    ============================================
Obviously.....a shallow argument that mediocrity and stupidity doesn't reign in the so-called Top 25 preseason polls.....they got it about half-right as you will see in just a couple of weeks

Obviously....thre is no Top 25 at this early point in the season....we must wait a couple of more weeks.

But.....what is also crystal clear is that there are 12 or more teams undeserving of the ranking at this time.

The noose will get tighter and most farcical teams will have to face a real opponent in the near future.

All I can venture is the TOP Three I mentioned....with perhaps......maybe....Florida at 4....UF s D to me is a quixotic puzzle (HUskerObject says ...what???)

Your ducking the question. You say there are a few top teams, that's a no brainer my fish knew that....but you also are critical of the rest of the top 25 as being overrated. That implies that there are teams who deserve to be in the top 25 and aren't there because the 20 or so teams that are there are mostly overrated. So I'd like to know those teams that aren't overrated and should be in the top25.
