Remember Demetrius Jones, the Irish starting QB in the opener against GaTech? Good'ol #3? Apparently, last night, he left school without any word, for good. Supposedly he is already enrolled at Northern Illinois.
Ah yes, when the going gets tough the tough transfer. This kid is a "me" player. He's another Greg Olsen. I'll always laugh at Olsen who wallowed in a miserable Miami offense while ND was scoring well with Brady. While he spent a couple of down years, ND was in BCS Bowls. Yes sir, in one month, you know everything there is to know about a football program. Good luck DJ. You need it.
Wow I leave town for 1 day and the backup QB blows town. I am not surprised at all, the rumours were that he wanted to transfer after the Spring and that Charlie convinced him to stay. Given that he dropped behind Clausen after the 1st game and could see the hand writing on the wall for his future (backup QB), he was up against a clock. He had to transfer so that this year would count as his year sitting out. If he played this year not only would he burn another year of eligibility but he'd have to sit out next year. Now he can play next year, assuming he wins the job. Maybe he'll be the next Zach Kustok!
ummm <t>nutin from nutin here but....... isn't this the kid who got arrested?<br/> <br/> Also, isn't this the kid who said it was QB or nothing for him?<br/> <br/> Well, I wish him luck.</t>
I ... <t>Wish the young man the best but with no arm he was never going to play at this level. It clears the path for the guy that will eventually be the guy here Crist IMO. Not next year but the year after. Remember I said this.<br/> <br/> Lets hope we manage to find an offensive line in the meantime.</t>
I have to smile at this one. Demetrius slunk out the back door without saying a word or even speaking with the coaches who had given him a scholarship, an Opening Day starting job and protected him from reporters when he screwed up with the police. Wow. If he had no more guts or character than that...he never could have handled the job of Fighting Irish quarterback: one of the most difficult jobs in all of sports. He even practiced with the team on Thursday and allowed the coaching staff to waste time installing a special package just for him in case he was needed against Michigan...and all the time he was secretly dealing with Northern Illinois. Wowza. Who does this guy think he is? At least Northern Illinois knows what it is. This kid doesn't have a clue. Charlie paid a high price for this mistake, which I'm sure he made in an attempt to improve Irish recruiting in Chicagoland, but I'm not sure that it was worth it. Taking Demetrius Jones and sticking with him cost us Mitch Mustain, Zach Frazer and/or David Ausberry or Butch Lewis... This also solves the mystery of how/why tackling-dummy QB Darrin Bragg was allowed back on the team. He was an insurance policy against Demetrius flaking out; which is what happened... This will be fine. Its called improving by subtraction. Any team is better off in the long run without guys like that. He couldn't have helped us...
I read where Notre Dame is giving him a list of the schools that they will release him to, and did I also read that Northern Illinois was not going to be on that list? Seems like I remember Alabama taking a lot of flak a couple of years ago because they wouldn't release a transfer to another SEC school.
KP <t>What is being lost in translation here is that Northern Illinois doesn't have a scholarship for him. They are maxed out.<br/> <br/> They will release him, but not to anyone appearing on their schedule while he's there. That's pretty standard stuff.<br/> <br/> Personally, I say let them go.. but to each their own</t>
I have to disagree. Notre Dame thought enough of this kid to offer him a scholarship and shut down their QB recruiting for 2006 when he accepted. Now they are severely short handed and with the O-line play we have seen through three games we could easily lose the last two to injury. The kid left us in tough shape, stealing away in the night. I think ND has every right to have a limited say in where he goes.
I kind of agree with George. But I guess I was wrong, it seems like a lot of folks on here thought Alabama was really treating the kid badly because we wouldn't release him to any SEC school. :?
