HUGE UPSET!!! 34-32.....the most exciting Michigan radio broadcast I have heard since AC...Anthony Carter caught the last second TD vs. Lee Corso's Indiana back in the 70s.... Arguably....the Greatest upset in the history of college football???
Ahem...it's gets easier for the Mountaineers next week...( No not those Mountaineers)...as they take on Lenoir-Rhyne.... ....friggin amazing......
MCG, If I'm Lloyd, I do not think I would listen to Detroit or Ann Arbor sports radio for the rest of his life. I'm shocked beyond belief but it is upsets like this that makes college football so great.
"Carr started going for two in the 3rd quarter and failed twice. What was that score again?" That sounds eerily Zookish to me... You are right Bobda.....WDFN jocks will skewer him now.
I'm pissed. Comcast didn't cave into the Big Ten network pressure and I didn't get to see the game. Fortunately, I'll get to see the Lloyd Carr show tomorrow.
Good point, Gipper. I think I will send a letter to Comcast thanking them for not carrying the B10 network.
If you guys ever visit that tiny little town of Boone NC you will see the humor of todays win over Michigan. This has to go down as the biggest upset I've ever seen. What a great sport.
I saw a lot of the game through ESPN updates and it looked like Appalachian State simply outplayed the Wolvies for most of the game. This could only be a classic case of a big-time outfit not respecting their opponent until it was too late. I can't think of any other explanation. This is like The Mouse that Roared or Mouse on the Moon... ......Wow... Some wiseguy has already figured out that this was the first time that Michigan and Notre Dame lost their openers at the same time in more than 70 years...

I was aware of that but I sure did not want to post it on the Skybox! Lloyd's team always seem to struggle a bit in the opening games, but they always seem to come back strong by November, when we play them. While this is certainly a huge upset, App State was not the cadaver that many other played. They are a two time defending 1-AA champ which means they are a very good team. The talent disparity is obviously not as great as we all thought. This is why we watch the games... for moments like this.
From what I saw the size difference was significant. However...I would guess that the speed difference was not as great and when AppSt spread out their attack they could utilize their speed and skill players. Strengthwise...who are we kidding? What would an AppSt weightroom look like compared to Michigan's? The biggest single reason as George alluded to was the intangible of being a winner. For some reason UM has fallen into a losing funk since that OSU game and AppSt is a two-time defending national champion who feels they can and should win...even if the idea was farfetched. They didn't feel for one minute they should have lost the game or they would have.
