We have now created the Yahoo private group for the contest.

    Groop ID # is 7159

Password: Will be Skybox Private Mailed to you when you reply to this announcement. This will keep outsiders from barging in. Any registered "Lurkers" are welcome to join. Just reply here.

Once you receive your password, go to click on this link to sign up. If you already have a Yahoo account, sign in and sign up. If not, create a free account and then return to sign up.

When you sign up, make sure to set favorites, or bookmarks to the site to make it easy to get there each week. Also, choose to receive notification e-mails each week to remond you to set your picks. Wrtie down your Yahoo ID and password so that you do not forget it.

We have selected to drop one week's score (lowest score of the contest for each participant). This will allow each of us to miss a week and still stay in contention.

    Gang,

We are set up to use the Tie breaker system from Yahoo. The tie breaker rules are as follows:

Each week, Yahoo! Sports will select two games to be designated "Tiebreak Games."

In any week where two or more players finish with the same number of points, here's the system that'll be used to break the tie:
    • 1st: Closest to the total points for the first Tiebreak Game.
2nd: Closest to the home team points for the first Tiebreak Game.
3rd: Closest to the road team points for the first Tiebreak Game.
4th: Closest to the total points for the second Tiebreak Game.
5th: Closest to the home team points for the second Tiebreak Game.
6th: Closest to the road team points for the second Tiebreak Game.
7th: Closest to the school whose team scores the most points.
8th: Closest to the school whose team scores the least points.
9th: Whichever user had more points in the previous week (or the week before that if still tied, etc.).

You'll be able to determine each weekly winner by looking at the Weekly Performance page, where the person winning the week winner will be shown in bold.

I suggest that all members using the latest IE or Mozilla (anything with tabs) use the multiple tab set home page feature. You can open as many tabs as you normally use, including one for the Yahoo contest, Then save the current tab set as your multiple tab set home page. Yahoo will keep you logged in for up to two weeks without logging in again.

If you need any more details on multiple tab home page, just ask.

This is how my IE comes up each and every time I open IE. Notice the two Yahoo tabs (red square around both). I am in two Yahoo contests and both come up, logged in, each and every time.

I have no idea why it is up this early, but the contest is now ACTIVE! The first week's picks are up and ready for you to edit.

From the Group home page, click on your pick set name. That will take you to your 14 week page. Click on edit on the far right side of week one's row. Don't forget the tie breaker info at the bottom.

All games for week one are on Saturday, Sept-1. You have until 5 minutes before the first game to make your picks.

I find it humorous that Stanford is listed as the favorite over UCLA. Actually there are very few games in this first week that are not one-sided on paper.

Actually, Sid, the lines are not out yet so the games are listed with the home team as the favorite. That could change when the lines are published.

The last poll has been removed. 78% against point spread was the final count.

OK. Had my son's over yesterday. Drank mass quantities of cold beer on a very hot day. Brain not working this morning... I am crying out to my SkyBox brethren for guidance on the rules for picking my selections.

We are picking the outright winners.

We are assigning confidence points? I am certain Michigan will defeat Appaloosa.... do I assign a 15 or a 1 ?

Then we do a the tie breakers when we're done with all that?

    Help me! :?

Outright winners... Not going with the spread. If Michigan is a 30 point favorite and they only win by 10 points, you still win your confidence points if you picked Michigan.

Higher confidence in your selection means giving higher confidence points. If you gave Michigan 15 confidence points, you would receive 15 points in the contest. If you gave them only one point you would receive only one point. So the team that you are most confident in gets the highest confidence points. The team you are least confident in gets the lowest.

Tie breakers are only used to break ties. Here is a excerpt from the rules link that is at the end of this note:
If you need help with the rules, feel free to write a note here. If I don't get back to you quick enough, you can also CLICK ON THIS LINK for a complete listing of all rules.

    EVERYONE:

Be aware that the Point Spread is used only to determine which team is the favorite and which team is the underdog. Please, go to the "Group Picks" page and notice that the "Spread" row between the "Favorite" row and the "Underdog" row is blank. This means that the spread has not yet been determined.

What does this mean to you? It means that the HOME team is the one listed in the Favorite column on your picks page. That team may, or may not be the favorite once the spread is listed. Until the spread is shown on the grup picks page, do NOT count on the team in the favorite column actually being the actual favorite.

The spread should be posted on Monday.

We have two teams by the name of kp.

KP, if you have a family member that wants to join in, that is fine. Please change the name of one of the teams.

If this is not a member of you family or a friend, let me know.

I am going to send out a request for identification to the registered e-mail. If there is no response, I will consider it a spam account and that second kp team will be kicked off.

OK Guys and Gals, the line have been made public and are posted on the "Group Picks" page. Now, you can count on the listed favorite actually being the favorite.

I made mine!! In looking at the list of picks I'm surprised that ND/GaTech is not on the list. I guess they limited it to the top 25, but really there were what 6 games where if you were picking by point spread they were off the board. Irish/GaTech is a good game to pick and has national interest. Much more so than Hawaii/N.Colorado.

Will we not be able to see where we all stand as the contest progresses?

Yes you can. It is not updated game to game, but it is usually updated by the morning after the last game is over. It is updated now:

Looks like Tree Frog is in the lead with Bama-BoBear riding the caboose.

Thanks Tom. For some reason the group picks would not load for me. Seems to be working fine now.

How are your joints responding now?

I just noticed that the Rutgers/Navy game is the first game this week. It is being played right now.

Five people did not get their picks in for this week's game. At least one person did not finish this week's picks with one game left open.

Obviously, this is the reason that we are dropping one week's score. These 5 people will be dropping this one hoping that the rest of the weeks are good to them.
