I don't remember the exact timing but even though I know Steve wants to be somewhere that golf is played 9 months out of the year you have to wonder why the Irish didn't explore his availability when TW was fired.

Maybe the timing just didn't work but I could see the OBC doing some serious....serious damage with the talent he could get to ND.

Check out the latest AP rankings for others receiving votes and notice the points for both SouCar and ND:

" South Carolina 69, Miami 68, Alabama 66, Oregon State 42, Wake Forest 40, South Florida 28, Arizona State 17, Brigham Young 14, Southern Miss 12, Notre Dame 11"

Spurrier is a great college coach. I have a feeling though that he would have never come to Notre Dame. He would have recruited lights out at Notre Dame and I have no doubt he would have won very big. But I'm guessing that he personally never has had an interest in coaching at Notre Dame.

No interest for what reason Terry?

Maybe because of the weather and maybe because of the way the governing powers there would police his sometimes errant mouth.

From a winning standpoint I think Spurrier would definitely bring ND back to an NC title game.

How about for starters he has admitted that he doesn't vote fairly in the Coach's poll when it comes to ND. He always "bumps them up a little" because he's that type of guy. I wouldn't want him near our sideline.

As gip pointed out, while he's never said the words I hate Notre Dame...his actions in the past and some of his comments have indicated that he'd be about as interested in coaching at Notre Dame as he would be coaching at say...TENNESSEE!!! :)

I wouldn't want Spurrier as the ND coach. He's a great coach and I respect him, but I would not want him coaching my team. There is something about him I don't like. I just can't put my finger on it.

Not at all. Both Holtz and Charlie Weis have said things that probably make the powers that be sort of cringe. Personally I preferred the Ara Parseghian approach, Ara didn't really spend a lot of time talking to the press and was very carefull about saying things that might be implied in any negative way.

I don't think Spurrier likes Notre Dame, and I'll bet that if during his last year with the Redskins he was approached as to wheter or not he had interest in the Irish he would say NOPE!
