Was off-line a couple of days. I would say these guys don't remind of anyone other than a god-fearin, gun totin Republican who can't tell the diff btw a small bird and Big Bird except that one player, Kenneth Tookes is in trouble for actually having fired the gun supposedly into a dwelling.  I think he is in serious, deserved trouble.
Someone refresh my memory. Was this guy still on the Gator staff when he was caught selling drugs or was he already gone? Regardless, he got off really light considering he could have gotten 40 years in the slammer. http://www.alligator.org/pt2/060217parker.php
I believe he was still on staff and allowed to coach two more seasons.......just joking! He was I think on staff but of course immediately dismissed by Donovan....because he blew Billy D's stash.....jokin again... On another note and in reference to my Big Bird comment above in reference to Cheney.....I heard a comment from a news anchor on CNN I believe that even I have to be perturbed about. This idiot in referring to the victim said and I quote: "the man Cheney gunned down".
The guns were owned by Dee Webb who is no longer on the team because he is going to the NFL.. I didn't know about Caldwell being involved but I think you can look for some serious discipline from the coaches. Major Parker who is the person sentenced for drugs was on the Gator staff when he committed this crime and I think he did get off easy. Most Gators were very surprised when he was involved in a drug situation. I didn't mean to duck anything but haven't been online in a couple of days. Gator Bill
I can see this as a legitimate outcome. However, those guys, if they didn't know before, should be taught that all guns are to be considered loaded until proven otherwise. "Unloaded" guns have caused many deaths.
I am not for stronger gun regulations, the ones we have if enforced are more than enough. But as a non-gun owner I have no idea why anybody needs to have an AK-47. I understand that "collectors" might legitimately have a lot of guns that they don't need or are far more powerfull than anybody needs. However why do I think none of those guys are "collectors"? And your comment about unloaded guns being deadly is dead right! Every year we all read examples of kids who get their dads gun and don't know it is loaded and kill another child. Terry
Assuming that it was a legal semi-automatic AK, Terry, it shouldn't really upset your senibilities. The AK 47 is an inexpensive, reliable, sturdy rifle with few moving parts. It is illegal to own a fully automatic version, unless you have a Class 3 firearms permit. It's pretty popular with gun collectors in the legal version. It's not a particularly powerful weapon...much less so than your typical deer hunting rifle. It gets it's bad rap because it is so popular as an assault weapon (automatic version) in the developing world, and also because of it's popularity in the gang culture, etc. Gun deaths of children continue to decline. Two thirds of them are suicides or drug-related. It's absolutely inexcusable for a gun owner to have a situation where his child has unsupervised acess to his firearms, but if we could take better care of our children by trying to keep them out of the drug culture and trying to cut down the causes of childhood and teen depression, as well as screening for depression better and getting it treated, we could probably go a long way towards even further decreases. stu
I didn't know that, but if so that is a great stat! I'm not exactly sure what the law is in Texas, but I believe there are criminal penalites for the Parent(s) who are negligent with their weapons and that weapon is used in an accidental shooting. I remember it was very contentious when it was passed many thought it was too much to try a parent who might have just lost a their own child or the child of a friend or neighbor to such an accident. Terry
Terry, I like that avatar. Here is a link; http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/00news/finaldeath98.htm But one death of a child is one too many. I would add that for those who consider the NRA a bunch of cowboys, they have consistantly supported laws that hold people responsible for properly storing their guns safely so they cannot be accessed by children. stu[/url]
IMHO Tookes deserves a 6-game suspension, minimum. If that happens, he's probably gone to a lower division school as this is his "final season".
Unloaded guns never shot and killed anyone. Always treat every gun as a deadly weapon that is ready to fire on a hair trigger. When I used to hunt I made it an absolute point never to allow my gun to point at a target I didn't want to hit even if I was certain I had just unloaded it.
MCG, I think we are saying the same thing. I just wanted to make sure that you understood that by putting Unloaded in quotes, I was refering to loaded guns that the owner THOUGHT was unloaded.
