What's even better abou this is that it wasn't but about a week ago the Go Blue Wolverine editor Tom Beaver was trumping what a great time that the Ethan Johnson was having in Ann Arbor and he was feeling great about the chances he'd be a Wolverine. He even said that Johnson would only make a cusory trip to South Bend. Well now he's Irish!!! The Beaver is sad!!
Beaver <r>Sad Beavers and Happy Irish fans. My weekend came early. GO IRISH!8)<br/> <br/> <IMG src="http://www.rubatos.com/a_happy-face.gif"><s></e></IMG></r>
EL... <t>This is amazing and Johnson is sick on the Rivals highlights. If we hold these guys the program has turned the corner getting defensive talent and the only question will be can they coach them. I'm betting they can and while we will still struggle this year I think there will be vast improvement.<br/> Great pickup.</t>
bROWN <r>Like I said before, Jeremy Brown is ther next most likely to commit. Here is a comment he made recently after Blanton and Slaughter committed.<br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I'd say we are in good shape here. <E>8)</E></r>
It was just a few months ago that we agonized when Tratttou reneged at the last minute and succumbed to the snake charmer from UF. I don't think Trattou would get an offer this year.
Supposedly Trattou left because of his concerns about playing in a Corwin Brown defense. Guess there are now more than a few top prospects who can't wait to do that. We're still 2 or three years away but the talent harvest continues.
Floyd <r>O.K, the D is filling up VERY nicely in this class. What we need now is the WR Michael Floyd to get on board. Gotta like this kid, 6'3" and 195, good speed. Looks like CW's kind of WR. Hell, looks like anybody's kind of WR! <E></E></r>
They are also not giving up on the Brown kid (LB from Kansas) who is the best player on defense on their board. I do wonder about the McCarthy kid from Ohio, he's highly rated and all, and his brother plays for the Irish. But I wonder if we need him at this point.
I don't care if we need him or not. If USC can stack up 10 HS All-Americans at TB, then we can stack up a few safeties...
From... <t>What I read on several sites OU leads for Brown and yes we need the Ohio kid at safety. After what we have watched in this secondary over the last 4-5 years as Dog says, stack em up.</t>
Irish Illustrated posted a new top 10 uncommited players on ND's hit list....look at the old top 10 uncommited players...pretty neat we've hit 9 out of 10!! We are at 17 players and the word is that 23 is the number, so that means 6 of the uncommited players. I'd like Floyd, Filer, Forst, Jeremy Brown, and McCarthy...then save 1 last spot for either Forston or even Arthur Brown. If neither of those 2 take the plunge...and it'll be late January before those 2 decide. Then stick with 22.
Forst plays at Manasquan HS about five miles from where I sit now. He is a monster physically at almost 6'9" and 300.. He just collapses the side of the line he lines up on. His school makes the state playoffs every year and he is very well coached. Rutgers will be hard to beat for this guy.
recruiting <r>Larry,<br/> <br/> I'd be VERY surprised if Jeremy Brown doesn't end up at ND. I'm pretty confident that unless ND holds him off he will commit as soon as he gets to South Bend. Problem is that now that The Irish have so many good secondary guys on board and coming and with McCarthy threatening to commit any day, are they gonna have space for him? <br/> <br/> I really like the kid and hope he ends up at ND. <E></E></r>
Tim, Given the horrendous quality of our coverage men over the last several years I'm all for stolckpiling talent back there. If we have 20 DB scertainly we can find 4-5 fast ones with good coverage skills. On Tommy Z: I'm his biggest critic around here. I'm hearing that he has cut weight, picked up his old speed and has a greater grasp of coverage under Corwin Brown. If so, he will make me eat my words which I will gladly do. I would love to see him get some minutes on offense; he is a huge threat with the ball in his hands. Why not game pla him in as an H back or something to just get him the ball and let him work?
Browne has upside because he can play WR as well as DB. But McCarhy is being recruited by nothing but top schools. Ohio State, LSU, Michigan are all after him so you know that he is a great player. It's just that we seem to have a plethora of DB's. But they'll take both Browne and McCarthy I have no doubt if they want to come to ND.
EL.... <t>To clarify the Brown I was referring to is the #1 kid in the country the LB not the DB we are involved with. I'm with George in getting him and McCarthy with what we have watched the last few years. <br/> I hope the info George had on Z is correct as we badly need him to perform in the new defense of Brown's. Like George I was livid at the way he played last year so this is great to hear.<br/> Counting the days till kickoff in rainy Houston.</t>
Arhur Brown would be the crown jewel of the class if he came. But for some reason $$$$$$$ I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at OU. BTW Brown also as a lil brother who is a RB and one of the best players projected in the class of 2009. Brown is no doubt though going to be a very late commit.
FWIW Dan McCarthy will announce today at 5PM wheter he will verbal to Notre Dame or to Ohio State. And Pete Sampson is reporting that OL Trevor Robinson who recently decomited from Nebraska had a good visit with ND and feels like he will verbal to ND soon. Things are going really, really, really...well.
