Robert Blanton the lights out hitting safety from North Carolina picked ND over Va Tech and the hated Michigan Wolverines. The good news continues for the defensive side of the football. Think Corwin Brown has had an impact in recruiting so far?
We are finally getting back to getting top defensive players. In Ara's day we were always loaded on defense, it started to slow in Lou's later years where we couldn't get the great defensive players. Glad to see Corwin Brown starting to turn things around. Too bad that one of the top guys in last years class at DB, Gary Gray, will miss the year due to a broken arm. Terry
recruiting <r>Another great catch on the Defense side! Keep um comin Corwin! Another year or so and they will be talking about the great defense at ND. God, if Corwn can coach half as good as he recruits we'll be in great shape! <E>8)</E></r>
OK I'm delusional. Brown is an influential, motivating guy. I expect to see his influence on a very improved ND defense. I hope he stays for a while.
Terry... <t>As a ND fan for the first time in several years I have a good feeling eventually the program is going to correct the defensive side of the football. I like what I have read on the approach CB will run on the field plus its obvious the recruiting has really picked up defensively. Sure it will take a year or two for this crop to "figure" out college football but you have to feel positive about where we are heading. Last year ever single time we went on defense I wanted to leave the room. Eventually I look for that to not happen.</t>
BTW: While we are all talking about the Irish and getting ready for the upcomming football season.....in a small suburb of Mansfield Ohio a certain cat is getting ready as well.
LOL! BTW, I found this - French, from Italian gazzetta, probably from Italian dialectal gazeta, a small coin (possibly from the price).
gazette noun (plural ga·zettes) Definition: 1. newspaper: a newspaper, especially a local newspaper or the official paper of an organization the Medical Union Gazette 2. U.K. publication with official news: an official publication in which government appointments, public notices, lists of bankruptcies, and other items appear transitive verb (past and past participle ga·zet·ted, present participle ga·zet·ting, 3rd person present singular ga·zettes) Definition: U.K. publish something in gazette: to publish or announce something or name somebody in a gazette ( often passive ) [Early 17th century. Directly or via French < Italian gazzetta < Venetian dialect gazeta de la novità "pennyworth of news"]
Well Irish Illustrated is reporting that the Irish have landed Stone Mountain Georgia CB Jamoris Slaughter. He's a 4 star player and Corwin Brown did his thing and landed the young man!!! Along with Robert Blanton this gives us 2 highly rated CB's in this class. The DB's are fast becomming the strength of the Irish. I'm sure that between coach Lewis who was a long time highly thought of NFL DB coach and Corwin having just come from the Jets as a DB coach that the kids know that they are going to be prepared for the NFL at Notre Dame. I wonder who's up next!!
Slaughter <r>DEFENSE - DEFENSE- DEFENSE!!!!! THEY JUST KEEP A COMIN!!!<br/> <br/> Rumors have been flying about a possible commitment by Rivals250 safety Jamoris Slaughter. The Tucker (Ga.) High standout made it official with confirmation about a pledge earlier today. <br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> Slaughter committed to the Irish. <br/> Slaughter has confirmed his commitment to Notre Dame to Rivals.com.<br/> <br/> "I committed to Notre Dame," Slaughter said. "I committed to coach Corwin Brown and coach Bill Lewis on the phone late last night and then gave a commitment to (Irish head coach) Charlie Weis this morning at 6:45 and made it official."<br/> <br/> The highly-touted prospect picked the Irish over Michigan, Georgia, LSU and others. He is commitment No. 16 for the Irish in the Class of 2008 and the second from the state of Georgia. He joins defensive tackle Omar Hunter of Buford (Ga.) as the top highly-touted Peach State prospects to commit to Notre Dame in this year's class.<br/> <br/> Notre Dame secondary coach Bill Lewis was the recruiter of record for Slaughter. This was Lewis' second verbal commitment in this year's class. Earlier, he picked up a pledge from Rivals100 safety prospect Robert Blanton of Matthews (N.C.) I'm lovin' this. Big, fast thoroughbreds. If this guy can coach the "D" the way he recruits, the Irish will be bringing the pain in short order.
It just keeps getting better and better... "It's a wrap for college football." That was the reaction of 2008 Irish commit Brandon Newman when he got the word from defensive coordinator Corwin Brown on Wednesday night -- that defensive end Ethan Johnson had verbally committed to Notre Dame. Johnson, who was en route to Canada to visit family following this week's trip to South Bend, was unavailable for immediate comment. He becomes the 17th verbal in Notre Dame's 2008 recruiting class (an astonishing average of almost one commitment a week since National Signing Day). The confirmation of Johnson's commitment comes on the heels of a wild two-day stretch filled with rumors about multiple verbals out of the final Irish football camp of the month. Sources had told BlueandGold.com on Tuesday that Johnson had accompanied current Notre Dame offensive lineman Paul Duncan into a summer class, where the Oregon native told the students that he had committed to the Irish that day. Whether Johnson was actually verbal No. 16 will have to be determined by timeline later, but defensive back Jamoris Slaughter, who was not at the camp, beat him to the punch -- at least publicly -- by confirming his commitment Wednesday morning. Check back with BlueandGold.com later as we attempt to reach both Johnson and Slaughter directly.
Johnson <r>Man oh man! Am I dreamin? if so please don't wake me up!!! Ethan Johnson is on board now!!!! Holy cow!! What a class and talk about DEFENSE!! Let me go get my morning coffeee and take this all in!!! This already is a GREAT recruiting class and it may just end up being a MONSTER of a class!!!!! <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E> <E></E></r>
