"Hey, maybe GPD thinks selling 8 grams of MJ to college kids will break the local coke distribution ring(s)."

So the consensus is amongst the crimestoppers here is that stinging college students buying small amounts of pot is the way to defeat the drug problem in America and is the best use of police resources.

    OK....whatever....

Tom....it sounds dangerous for your acquaintences that you are aware of their leisurely pursuits given your views on the matter.

Here is a poll about MJ over on Gatorsports and keep in mind that only a sample of the respondents are still in college. The age demographics are across the board on this and the result so far is 73% voting very moderate to liberal on the subject.

How should marijuana be treated in today's society?
    It should be illegal, period.
    11% [ 12 ]
It should only be legal for medicinal purposes with a prescription.
    14% [ 15 ]
It should be legal to grow your own and for personal use only.
    6% [ 7 ]
It should be a regulated industry, with small amounts legal.
    21% [ 22 ]
It should be treated like tobacco, legal for adults to use.
    46% [ 48 ]

    Total Votes : 104

Me personally....I feel that pot users should never be punished and dealers should be only in conjunction with other more toxic drug offenses that they may be involved with and then get the book thrown at them.

I think the drug laws (the way they used to be enforced until these kinds of recent events) were sufficient.

Regardless of what some poll of college students may show MJ is illegal. As such if you are caught buying you are subject to arrest. As to whether or not the Gainesville PD should use valuable time on this is a matter of opinion.

But MCG, I sure do not get your opinion that it is the nature of Skybox. Unless you are just looking for trouble that is not true.

If I was making the decision I would probably have not set up that bust, however someone did and and what the two players did was illegal and now they will have to deal with that. I don't think it is going to be major but I don't think they get off free either.

Guys, these reverse stings are designed to make the buyers more concerned as to whether their next buy will land them in jail. If there are less buyers, the seller has a harder time selling. In other words, if you take the demand away, the supply moves esewhere. The sellers have less people to sell to and move on to more fertile grounds. Maybe, just maybe, the Gainsville police have a method to their madness.

Begrudgingly....you at least admit to reason Bill.

    Tom,

This type of structured "sting" is new to me.

I have never heard of this approach being utilized and frankly I don't think it deters mainly because they cannot afford to run this one enough times to make it effective and in general I think the public would highly disagree with these tactics against otherwise normal citizens.

If its against the law and you get caught, then you face the music. What's the big deal? I'm sure the people that got caught knew they were breaking the law. They took the risk and got caught.

Don't go to bed, with no price on your head. No, no, don't do it.
Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time. Yeah, don't do it.
And keep your eye on the sparrow, when the going gets narrow.
Don't do it, don't do it.

So .... should an individual who "fails" a drug test be arrested and charged with "possession" as they would have possessed (perhaps even purchased from the "dealer man") the illegal substance prior to ingesting it?

Just seems logical anyone failing a ("legally banned substance") drug test has committed at least one crime.
