Obviously a lack of things to do in Boston  You made one egregious error in your taunt.... I think we can all agree that A-Rod is not gay. The evidence contradicts your charge

    Jifmeister,

Just saw a photo taken today of A-Rod strolling the streets of Boston with his wife, signing autographs for the fans on the streets.

Fickle bunch, those Red Sox fans. Chanting at the game after asking for autographs earlier.

I know this sounds like the monday morning quarterback but why didn't they start Taveras??? His only use might be to beat the Yanks

I actually discussed it before the game to start him, wake gets drilled by the Yanks and is going through a very rough period right now.

Warning before the first pitch today???

Whatever his tastes, A-Rod is quite the player...
Apparently the NY Daily News Gossip page is now covering sports...

This must have been particularly galling to the rabid Red Sox fan. The kind of defeat that leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth for a long time.

You fall behind the Yankees by four only to storm back and re-take the lead in one inning. You're at home, the masks and signs are out, you have your ace on the mound and the John Miller is in the broadcast booth wearing Red Sox pom poms. And it's all on national TV.

Beckett leads cheers every inning from the dugout as , in Miller's words ,the best set up man and closer in the game come in to throw dirt on the Yankee corpses.

To lose this game in the 9th, with the much maligned A-Rod taking Papelbon deep after Okijima blew the lead had to be a stinging way to end a weekend. Then to have to watch Rivera get the save. Oy vey!

This race could be ovah, in JIFs vernacular but I don't think so just yet.

    Good morning, Ricko!

You may be right, my friend. But the Yankees are taking baby steps now and Boston has yet to uffer any doldrums. I gotta believe :D

    Morning boys!

Didn't see the game myself, had that dinner party to go to. Kim and I wisely took today off, knowing that we'd be up late, and we were.

Bitter taste? When just the day before the Yankees took the lead three times only to have the Sox take it right back? Papelbon doesn't take a loss until June? Nah.

I think the Sox are looking okay right now with the best record in baseball, but I will say that if they want to stay in this position they have to stay focused and approach each team equally, whether they're an upper echelon team like the Angels, Indians, Tigers or Braves, or one of the lesser producers like the Royals, Devil Rays or Yankees.

And Joel, don't count anyone out yet. Remember - the Yankees are once agin the only team in MLB with a payroll above $200MM. They've got to get something for that eventually.

    :D

Ya gotta love those Red Sox guys.....one would think that with that kind of savvy in the organization they could bring home a title with somewhat greater frequency than Halley's Comet!

I think the facts would indicate that nobody has thrown more money down the sh!tter in search of a title than the boys from Boston....but I agree, one should never let facts get in the way of a good story!

Gee, I dunno Buck-T. Look at team salaries for this century alone. Lot of money our there these days. And don't parse out just what you want to read. Take the full quote in context. I was telling Joel not to count anyone out.

Yeah, two weeks. $40MM? And what did they get for that? Wow. Just wow. :D

What Rick is strategically leaving out of his Pavano example is that the team the Yankees outbid for his services was..... the Red Sox. And ditto for A-Rod.

Hate to be a wet blanket...

    A fool and his money...

Steinbrenner did a great job building the Yankees into what they are today. But recently the bankroll's effectiveness has been slipping. George, or his boy Ca$hman, appears to have jumped the shark.

And the Yankees did indeed outbid the Red Sox for A-Rod. In 2004. And look how that turned out.

    :D
