Facing tremendous public and internal pressure, Duke canceled their season last year. Had they continue to play even one more game, the hot bed of premature, irrational witch hunting would have given the institution an even greater black eye than the one they were facing. The problem is..........none of the charges were true. It was a politically motivated charge led by a DA who pushed damn near every 'PC' button in the media to perfection. The kids at Duke want a year of eligibility back, and conference foes are in fierce opposition to this. They are hiding behind the claim that 'hey, it was Duke that called off the season, not the NCAA' which is to say the least, a disingenuous stance to say the least. Many of the people involved here laughed while the red letters were cast, and enjoyed every minute of their rival's suffering. Unlike a lot of other school that hide convicted criminals behind Jesus, Socioeconomic considerations, or simply call it a 'second chance for a troubled individual,' Duke called the whole thing off until the truth could be found. IMHO, given the heat surrounding this situation, they did the right thing. They also did the right thing by bringing the team back when it became clear that a massive amount of the charges were patently untrue. They also did the right thing by keeping those who were still in question at a distance. Now its time for the NCAA to do the right thing and give those kids a year back...rather than continue to victimize them once more, which is exactly what Duke's opponents are asking for here. opinions?
It makes to much sense to happen. Why would the NCAA do right thing? That would be out of character for them.
