In the 7th inning of today's Yankee game, the PA announcer directed everyone's attention to the owner's box where Roger Clemens stood alone in a suit, holding a microphone and he announced he is returning to New York. Claims he'll be ready in one month. He did not offer to return the retirement gifts the Yankees gave him the last time he retired. No further comment.
He must be getting a truck load of money. I can see no reason why he is going back to New York instead of Houston. We've got as good a chance as the Yankees. This probably means he'll go to the HOF as a Yankee instead of as an Astro as well.
In a another appearance after the game, Rocket Roger announced his wish-list of additional retirement gifts which he will accept at the end of the year. His agent went on to remark that, under the circumstances, New Jersey fans may simply send cash...
George...You told me You didnt want him back!! LOLOLOL! Lets see 2 million a game ( 14 starts total 28 million). What a panic by Steinbrunner!!
That's right, I told you I didn't want him back and I still don't. And DD is right, Jersey people only deal in cash. Usually it's YOUR cash. 8)
I heard $28 million pro rated for a shorter season at $5.4 million a month. I don't see how he can afford hot dogs on that money!
PACT PUSHES ASIDE PINSTRIPE PRINCIPLES Principles? Sold their soul? Moral authority? Backing a truckload of cash equivalent to Tampa Bay's team payroll up to Rajah's door is acceptable, but agreeing to his contract terms isn't? Mike Vaccaro. Whatta blowhard.
It's the same deal he's had with the Astros, it has never been a problem in the Astros clubhouse. Roger was well liked and a team leader. I think everybody in Houston realized what a winner and a leader he was and it was just no big deal that he wasn't with the team 100% of the time. And as you can see by the record he posted in Houston that he didn't goof off on the days he wasn't traveling. He was 38-16 with an ERA of 2.40 in 3 years, if the Astros had hit with him on the mound he would have won another Cy Young and he'd have won another 10 -15 games. I can count how many games he left in the 7th inning up 2-1 or something like that and didn't get the win or he left down 2-1 because of our anemic offense. It'll be interesting to see if the Yanks get the runs when he's on the mound. Where is he going to start in the minor leagues, he's in Lexington right now where the Astros A club is located and his son Koby currently plays but the Astros won't let him work out at their facilities so he's going to have to move to a Yanks A league club pretty soon I'm sure.
Just to reiterate my position, I don't like Clemens and I don't like this "deal". Everything salary wise in baseball is wrong. First it priced kids out of the ballpark. Then families. There are two types of fans at the ballpark; those who were able to secure tickets through corporations and the drunken rowdies. The Yankees lead the parade, no question, but they are by no means alone. And what they do is legal. In business, morality has no role. In my view there are only two ways to break this trend... either fans and companies stop buying tickets or baseball breaks the players union grip. Which one do you think will happen first?
Unions are the ruination of this country. I hate them..have always hated them. People dont realize that price increases are due to union demands. Sure they get higher wages..but they more then give it back at the grocery store. Red Sox nat ion will never stop paying top prices for tickets. Its a religion, a way of life in New England. They could sell 100,000 tix every home game.
JIF.. <t>Thank you on unions. I despise them. The good news is they last time I looked they makeup only 13-16% of the workforce in this great country.</t>
