LB <r>Terry,<br/> <br/> I heard this kid in an interview on Irish Power Hour a few weeks ago and he sounded then like he was ready to commit to ND then. If I remember correctly, he had 2 brothers(1 being paul) that went to Penn St. and were not offered by ND(we see how that worked out) and his faimily has been long time ND fans. Hopefully this will work in reverse now foir ND as he had not received an official offer yet from JoPa but has been getting plenty of corrospondence from Penn St, UM and others.<br/> <br/> If you listened to the interview, you couldn't help but like the kid. sounded like he has a good head on his shoulders and really wants to play for ND. <br/> <br/> I also think he knows that the Irish are close to landing several big time LBs this year and if he didn't want to find himself without a spot, and he figured he better take advantage of the offer now before it was gone.<br/> <br/> Maybe nothing but I just have a good feeling about him. I'm glad he's Irish. <E>8)</E></r>
new Recruit <r>Some more info on Posluszny. I see he is listed on the rivals pre-season 100.<br/> <br/> Notre Dame got its first linebacker commitment of the year Thursday night when Pennsylvania native David Posluszny committed to Charlie Weis after visiting South Bend for Wednesday’s practice. Posluszny, whose brother Paul just finished an illustrious career at Penn State, is the sixth commitment of the year for Notre Dame and just the second on the defensive side of the ball.<br/> <br/> With the switch to a 3-4 defense, it was obvious that Notre Dame was going to need a renewed focus on linebackers this year in recruiting and getting Posluszny’s commitment this early in the recruiting process is a very nice start for the Irish.<br/> <br/> Posluszny, 6’2”, 214, 4.6, had played safety prior to this past season for his Hopewell High School team, but made the switch to linebacker for the 2006 season. Unfortunately he suffered a separated shoulder and hairline fracture in his collarbone and only played four games at the linebacker position. Posluszny will have all of next season, however, to start getting acclimated to the linebacker position.<br/> <br/> Listed at 214 already on Scout.com (which is probably a little generous), Posluszny still has 16 months until he reports to Notre Dame which should give him plenty of time to bulk up to the 220-225 range before he checks in next summer.<br/> <br/> With the speed to play safety on the high school level, Posluszny will help Notre Dame’s efforts to upgrade the defensive speed with this recruiting class and has been told by Weis that he was recruited to play weak-side linebacker which should let Irish fans know Weis likes his ability to rush the passer.<br/> <br/> Aside from bring good speed for the linebacker spot, Posluszny brings a tough mentality, the kind of tough as nails mentality Corwin Brown has repeatedly mentioned is necessary to play in his defense.<br/> <br/> Posluszny has also played at running back and flanker for Hopewell at times over the last three seasons which should help him covering running backs out of the backfield from the weakside.<br/> <br/> <U><s></s>Despite the success of Posluszny’s brother Paul, who won the Bednarik and Butkus Awards last year, at Penn State, the Nittany Lions did not extend a scholarship over to the younger Posluszny before he committed to Notre Dame Thursday. He did, however, receive scholarship offers from Pitt, West Virginia, Louisville, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and a handful of other schools.<e></e></U><br/> <br/> <B><s></s>The lack of an offer from Penn State may raise some eyebrows from Notre Dame fans, but being listed in Rivals.com’s Top 100 list, even if it is this early, should give Irish fans and idea of the kind of talent and potential Posluszny has.<e></e></B><br/> <br/> Getting this commitment was a great way to start linebacker recruiting for this year for the Irish who are looking to add at least four linebackers to the roster with this class.</r>
Well HoustonLarry gets his wish!! Anthony McDonald (LB) from Notre Dame Academy in Sherman Oaks Calif has commited to Charlie Weiss. SuperPrep.com
McDonald <r>Terry/Larry,<br/> <br/> Wow! I'm really happy to see this kid give his verbal. CW and Corwin Brown are really going to end up with several excellent LBs in this class. <E></E></r>
 Wow. This is incredible! I hope the boys downtown can keep their sense of humor after this one. Anthony McDonald's daddy, Mike, was a Trojan football player who also played in the NFL. For USC to lose this one must come as a shock. Either the McDonald family has become unhappy with the locals or they just loved Notre Dame that much. Either way: I'll take it. Anthony McDonald is exactly the kind of kid that USC has been using to beat us in recent seasons. He's an honest-to-God, big, fast, smart, hostile, sideline-to-sideline arse kicker. This will work. ..........JO'Co
Yes... <t>This was a guy I was really wanting the Irish to land. These type guys are the way back for Brown and the defense. Now the one we need is the LB from Chicago that is such a great athlete. We are fighting all the big boys on him but they have been on him from day one and Brown really wants the young man.<br/> <br/> I wonder if the QB that is coming with McDonald is really serious about ND.<br/> <br/> JO'Co, its now up to you to give us a report on McDonald once September gets here. We all know about your reports.</t>
You're talking about Steve Filer (LB) from the Chicago area. He'd better hurry up because Darius Fleming another very good LB is supposedly on the verge of commiting and if he does I don't know if they are going to take 4 LB this year or not. As far as Dayne Crist (QB), he did come with McDonald but since we just got Clausen last year I would be surprised if he signed with us.
Filer/Fleming <t>Terry,<br/> <br/> I think CW will take both Filer and Fleming if he has a chance.</t>
Correct... <t>Terry and I know I read somewhere a ND coach did say they would take 4-5 LBS this class. They may move one to DE that has the quickness off the corner. Encouraging to say the least.</t>
Well the Irish picked up another recruit...QB Dayne Crist a teammate of McDonalds at Notre Dame HS in So.Cal. The kid is legit, 6'5 rifle arm, and will likely be a 5 star qb. I'm pleasantly surprised that Charlie was able to entice a highly ranked qb given that we already have 4 qbs on campus including Jimmy Clausen.
Crist <r>YES! Gotta love the Califonria connection ND has going now! I'm like you Terry, I didn't think we would take any QBs this year at all. Obviously though, you can't really turn down one who is arguably one of the top in the upcoming recuiting class and who genuinely seems to want to go to ND. Nice, very nice. Sets up some great competiion for the QB slot the next few years.<br/> <br/> Question: Who's the one QB USC has offered so far this year? Answer: Dayne Crist<br/> <br/> Question: Who's the one QB Michigan has offered so far this year? Answer: Dayne Crist<br/> <br/> Question: Who's the one QB Florida State has offered so far this year? Answer: Dayne Crist<br/> <br/> But the 6'5" 221 pound quarterback from Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame has committed to ND according to the LA Times (he has a press conference tonight.) He was also offered by LSU among many others. Here's what USA Today had to say about him: <br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> "Trailing 17-10 with 4:17 remaining, Crist orchestrated a nine-play, 85-yard drive after Notre Dame took over following a Canyon punt. He connected with receiver Mike Stanton on a 30-yard touchdown pass in the back left corner of the end zone.<br/> <br/> Crist then rifled a laser to Stanton again on the two-point conversion, helping Notre Dame capture a 18-17 victory over Canyon, who was ranked as the No. 17 team in the nation by USA TODAY.<br/> <br/> "He's got the potential to be special by the time he leaves here," Rooney said of the 6-foot-4, 210-pound pro-style QB. "If he does the things we expect him to, we expect him to be not only one of the best quarterbacks in California, but one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country."<br/> <br/> "I'll compete against you in almost everything," he said. "No matter what it is, I want to be the best at it.""I'm going to do everything I can to help the team I pick get the top recruits," he said. "I want to win, and I want to win big. I wouldn't have it any other way."<br/> <br/> <br/> On film, Crist screams prototype. He's got a big arm... on one play he's chased out of the pocket and with a defender on his knees Crist wrists the ball 40 yards downfield for a completion. He's accurate, seems very fluid and already has a college build. <br/> <br/> If Charlie could put on his mad scientist hat and design a quarterback, he'd look a lot like Crist. All the sweeter that he was the top target of SC and Michigan. <E></E> <E>8)</E></r>
You've got to hand it to Charlie. He's getting QBs out of California, TEs out of New Jersey and Ohio, running backs out of Florida, LBs out of Chicago and linemen from everywhere. We haven't seen this kind of recruiting at Notre Dame in a long, long time. Wow...
Pretty damn impressive set of LB's! Ones brother is one of the all-time best LB's in PSU history, the other 2 are amongst the best in the land. I wonder what happens if Filer decides he wants to come. Get on board the bus is filling up!!
