Not much went wrong in the 1st half. Irish up 35-0, Drayk Bowen got a scoop and score. Running game is still a bit of a work in progress but CJ has been excellent.
Irish win 49-10. Purdue scored with 5 seconds left. Solid win, still a lot of work to do on the running game. As far as I can tell we had no injuries, that's important.
Quincy Porter will not play this year. On WR Quincy Porter being ruled out for the year: “I just wanted to start with obviously tough news with Quincy. He came to Notre Dame post patella surgery and it was a pretty long, tough healing process. And probably about a month ago, we had another procedure that we thought was gonna be the last thing that he needed to get him back to game-ready. “He was getting really close and had a little flare-up. Ultimately, they had an MRI this weekend, and the doctors decided that he'll have to have season-ending surgery to get his patella where it needs to go. Tough news for him. He's a great young man who has really done everything right and he's got another setback, but his mind is in the right place. He'll be back at some point here before we know it.”
Always discouraging to receive this type of news for any player. I hope he recovers and can plaY next season.
Just when we looked like we were going to put the game out of reach, we fail to convert on 4th and goal and then UNC drives 97 yds for a TD and it's game on. UNC gets the ball to start the 2nd half and it's starting to rain. 21-14 at the half.
UNC got the opener in the 2nd half with a 100 yd KO return. After that it was pretty much the Irish running the football to salt away the win. 37-26. Freshman RB Jonaz Walton really had a sort of coming out game with 23 carries for 120 yards. To me he looks like he should be our starter at RB, but I know sometimes these freshman RB's don't pass protect very well and for the Irish that's pretty important. Defense was just OK, we did get 2 picks early but then also gave up 2 long drives for TD's to UNC. Next up is a very weak Stanford team. On another note the UNC women's soccer dominated the Irish women and beat us 4-1 last night.
Very poor game by our normally very good special teams. A dropped punt snap, a botched snap on a PAT, a running into the kicker penalty and a KO return against us. Made the score closer than is should have been.
“Freshman RB Jonaz Walton really had a sort of coming out game with 23 carries for 120 yards.” agreed!!
