Didn't seem like the folks in Palo Alto or L.A. were very glad to see the start of the CFB season based on the empty seats at the USC and Stanford games.
I would have to agree Terry, maybe Belichick can improve from last season. Their win yesterday was a surprise to me.
Per ProFootballTalk: In 2025, linebacker Jack Pyburn transferred to LSU from Florida. Depending on how things go over the next two days, he’ll accomplish a very different kind of transfer from Florida. The undrafted Buccaneers has been waived, after had four sacks during the preseason. If he clear waivers, Pyburn will return to LSU, via On3.com. Pyburn is one of the plaintiffs in one of the lawsuits aimed at forcing retroactive application of the NCAA’s new five-year rule. To date, the players are winning the effort — despite the SEC’s attempt to slam the door on players who have signed with NFL teams. If Pyburn is claimed by another pro team, he won’t be able to return to LSU. His contract will be inherited by the team who claims him, and the standard NFL player contract prohibits the player from playing football for any other team or league.
Actually, that’s something I hadn’t thought of. What if a NFL teams signs a former player (now back in college) to a short term contract in season, then let’s him go after a couple of weeks. Can that player go back to college? Can he go to any college? What a mess.
Previewing some talk on Eleven Warriors.com this morning, Day wants both backup QBs to play this Saturday. You never can never have too much experience at that position. Looks like four freshmen are a lock to start Saturday. Really looking forward to this season. Odds on points 50+ is ridiculous.
That would be a ton of freshman. Which names are you hearing? I'm guessing Jay Timmons at nickel, maybe Chris Henry, Jr on the outside opposite JJ.....who else? I expect a couple year 1 transfers to start also, Earl Little Jr at safety next to McClain and maybe one of DT's Smith or Walker but they're not freshman from an eligibility standpoint. I do expect to see alot of Brock Boyd and Legend Bey, I know they are very high on both. I've heard a lot of talk that while this team may not have the same elite, upper tier talents as last year with 4 of the top 11 players picked in the NFL draft but that this is the deepest team Day has had....looking forward to seeing all the young ones early in this one. I'll be heading up to Cleveland to pick up my daughter and head down to the game on Sat morning. Coach Tressel gets celebrated with a plaque in the stadium ring of honor.
Legend Bey and Brock Boyd are getting a lot of exposure in the press anyway. Maurice Clarett chosen to ring the bell today. Apparently Maurice is really giving his continuing support to the Buckeyes. A far cry when he was playing football. Good to see that over the years he has matured handsomely.
Happy Week 1 to everyone! Good luck to everyone’s team this weekend! Here’s my OSU preview! https://www.vsbnradio.com/post/ohio-state-welcomes-ball-state-to-the-shoe-to-open-the-new-season
Wasn't Matt Patricia the DCoord last year? New defensive coordinator Matt Patricia will also be under the microscope as fans get their first extended look at his defensive scheme
Brinkmanship! SEC suing LSU. The SEC has taken a page out of the Big 12 playbook. Displeased with unfavorable state-court rulings, the conferences turned to federal court. For the Big 12, a federal lawsuit prompted Texas Tech to abandon a plan to play quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who had won an injunction against an NCAA-imposed gambling suspension. For the SEC, the lawsuit against LSU, coach Lane Kiffin, and others has a goal of keeping LSU from adding players who have been on NFL 90-man rosters. SEC sues LSU, Lane Kiffin in federal court over NFL transfer issue
Ga.Tech/Colorado has been entertaining. KO ret for TD by Tech and it's 7-7. Glad that game wasn't in the contest as I promise you I wouldn't have picked UMASS
UMass beats Rutgers 37-21. Last year, UMass went 0-12 and only scored more than 14 pts in 2 games. What a horrible loss to start the season for Schiano.
