Sam Burns and some LIV guy named Herbert both shot 62 this morning. Herbert and Cam Young who shot anoher 67 are tied for the lead currently at -8 and Jackson Suber had a solid round and is now 2 back of the leaders. Scottie and Bryson are out in the afternoon wave.
Bryson didn't shoot a 62 but he had a great round and sits at -7 1 shot off the lead. He of course is a LIV golfer as is Herbert the leader. Scottie had a good round and is at -4 with a bunch of other guys in a good position. If his putter had been hot today he'd have been a bit lower. Rahm hit a tremendous shot on 18 and looked to have s sure birdie to get to -5 but I guess he either didn't read the putt correctly or he pulled it
Hold on folks, it looks like the R&A is going to penalize Bryson for improving his lie/stance/swing in the rough. It's going to be a 2 shot penalty and that will drop him to -5. It certainly is a rule that those guys have to know and that they can't go into the rough like a lot of amateurs like me do routinely. One of those rules of golf that even to me seems like a reasonable one in a competition like a pro tour event where a lot of money and prestige is on the line.
Ryan Fox is your Champion Golfer of the Year. I doubt if anybody had him winning but he went out and just took the win, that birdie on 18 was a thing of beauty.l
Compared to the other golfers, he was like Nervous Norvus, always in a hurry. It was weirdly refreshing to watch him play. Sinking that last putt was enormous (says Captain Obvious).
Tour is at the Twin Cities this week, a mostly blah field due to the purse being 8M. But for some reason Scottie is in the field. I'm a bit surprised. The current leader, Ben Kohls, shot a 62 yesterday and has a 3 shot lead. Scottie shot a nice 65 and hasn't teed off yet so he's 6 shots back, but this course is going to take a lot of low scoring to win so nothing says he couldn't shoot a 62 today. The ladies are in Scotland this week for the Scottish Open. I don't believe Nelly Korda current #1 is at this tournament.
Jackson Koivun looks like barring a collapse will win today. Scottie is giving chase with others but a 5 shot lead looks solid.
Koivun is the winner. Set a new scoring record for the tournament. Scottie had a great round, shot 63, but needed a 59 to win.
It will be interesting to see how he plays this week at Detroit. He had an incredible college career so it's not like he's a flash in the pan, but it's the PGA tour. I remember the kid from Alabama who 2 years ago won his first ever start on the PGA Tour, and is now on the Korn Ferry Tour. It's a tough grind out on the tour.
