Terry, I'm not as close to pro golf as you are. It sounds like you're saying they're fixing what ain't broke.
Maybe the tour is trying to force the lesses events to up the sponsor money. As usual it's probably about the size of the purses.
At the end of the day...does anybody care about Phil "Im gonna choke' Mickelson? On that note ..Long Live Craig Stadler!!
I always liked Phil simply because he's a lefty, as am I, but he sure has flamed out. I'm sure others saw it long before I did.
From what I've read over the years, he's had gambling problems. Over they years, this has spilled over to his game. For instance, just prior to the Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills, he changed the brand of woods he was using. He cut a deal with Callaway to use their wood in exchange for them paying off what he owed at Vegas. His play there (as well as the rest of the team) was pretty bad especially his errant driving. Then there was his quick jump to take the money from LIV. Seems like he's in a declining spiral.
Kohls really blew it yesterday. All he had to do was Par the18th and he's in a playoff. Instead after a good tee ball he hits his 2nd into the water. Even withe a couple of drops which left with a long par putt, which he missed. To add insult to injury he missed his 3 ft bogey putt as well. That cost him 2nd and 316K to end up 3rd.
One of my favorite tournaments starts today in Lake Tahoe, the American Century Celebrity Tournament. Lots of names you know will be playing. Charles Barkley has the longest odds to win and of the 90 players his over/under finishing position is 63.5, he finished 69th last year. Want to know who's playing and today's pairings? Lots of talk about the course at Royal Birkdale before the tourney. Dry weather, has made the fairways like pool tables and the rough is been affected as well. All the talking heads said it was going to be more about strategy on this track than anything. Also Sir Nick called out Bryson and said he has no clue on how to play a links course, so Bryson goes out this morning and shoots 67 and is 1 shot off the lead. Scottie shot 68 and is 2 shots back.
Apparently Bryson was playing with a full set of 3D printed irons that he designed. Earlier in the year when they were announced he couldn't play them because they had to be approved by the USGA before he could use them in competition. I guess I can't buy a set at my local Watts or PGA Superstore.
