Perfect weather today for the B&G game. As what seems to be usual, a weird format. Off/Def no tackling to the ground , the #1's will only play 3 series. Odd ball scoring.
I watched a little more than half of the B-G game replay on Peacock. Like Terry has said many times, you can't tell much. The structure of the game made it even tougher than in the past. The things most noticeable to me were: 1) the back-up QB looked pretty good; we have a deep group of WRs including the freshmen; the crowd was the second biggest in the game's history at 45,000-plus and both end zones were well populated; Aeneas Williams looked good. I'd like to think both sides of the ball are going to be highly competitive, hence the close score at the end.
I watched the whole game, and I couldn't really come up with a WOW we're going to be good feeling. The back up QB's made some good throws and the WR's made some good catches. I do feel like our backup QB's have potential even though neither of them were highly rated recruits. I think the most important thing was I don't believe we had any injuries in the game. Everybody is pretty high on this teams potential next year. The key word is potential. Men's lacrosse finished their regular season with a solid win over Syracuse at home. Next up is the ACC tournament. Irish finish the season #1. ACC Tournament will be a tough one as the ACC is loaded with good lacrosse teams this year. Women's lacrosse lost their match vs Clemson in the ACC Tournament. Not sure what that means for any chance at the NCAA tournament. Recruiting for football is an ongoing 24/7/365 and we seem to be doing pretty good. Likely another top 10 type of class. Some of the things I read just blow my mind. There is a high rated DL out there that wants 9 million guaranteed, reportedly. Yikes.
2 things Terry, I agree that the most important thing about the spring final scrimmage is no injuries. The second thing is if getting anything close to $9M becomes (or is) a reality then the college game is done.
On the football recruiting front!!! “My name is Aidan O'Neil. I’m Irish. I’m Catholic.” And as of this morning, he’s a member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. “I think it makes a lot of sense,” the 2027 New Jersey defensive end told Irish Sports Daily prior to announcing his commitment to Notre Dame on Friday morning. O’Neil’s decision gives the Irish their 11th verbal pledge in the class and the first along the defensive line. “The support around me as a football player and a student and the culture is like no other,” he said. “The academic prowess of this school, I couldn't say no. O’Neil chose Notre Dame over a host of other offers, including finalists Kentucky and Penn State, capping a recruitment where the fit between player and program consistently stood out. “It was really the coaches and the people there and the academic history they’ve got there,” said O’Neil, who visited South Bend back in March. “I couldn't go wrong with Notre Dame.” BREAKING | 2027 DE Aidan O'Neil Commits To Notre Dame
I guess I spoke too soon. Fr. Safety Joey O'Brien had surgery after the Blue/Gold game. Lower leg, ankle, foot? Could be ready for Fall Camp. He was highly recruited and likely would have seen some playing time this year, but we are pretty deep at safety so it's not a big deal. Still!
