Back to back 20 win seasons, and back to back 1st round NCAA losses gets Stan Heath fired at Arkansas. The rumours are ripe that Broyles already has a deal in place for A&M coach Billy Gillispe. This will be a tough couple of weeks for the Aggies, with Kentucky and Arkansas gunning for their coach. Terry
As you can imagine this is causing a fire-storm on all the Aggie sites. Never say "never", but several things seem to point to Billy staying in CS. In just over 9 months we took his "requirements for winning" list on facilities from concept to ground-breaking. In just over a year we will complete a $20 million dollar addition to Reed arena that will rival ANYTHING in the nation. Money will not be an issue. Our athletic director publicly stated TODAY that we will not lose BCG because of money. As he sees it we added 6-7 MILLION dollars to the AD bottom-line PER YEAR thanks to Billy, and we could easily pay him a lion's share of that and still come out ahead. Billy has face to face told several large donors who are funding the new facilities that he's not leaving, and it just doesn't seem to be his style to directly lie... So... never say never, but I feel OK as far as Arkansas is concerned.
Well.. <t>Surprised here on Heath but will not be surprised at how long it takes the Poverty Pimp Jessee Jackson to cry foul on this situation.<br/> <br/> Mich, Ark, KY and Iowa all vacant at this time. Amazing.</t>
Was on the road earlier and heard on ESPN that Iowa has asked TN for permission to talk to Bruce Pearle. Not sure what incentive there would be for Pearle to make the move. Edit: Just after I posted, I read on ESPN that he is not interested.
Well Scott can relax and enjoy the weekend. The A&M AD Byrne has (according to the Houston Chronicle) reached a new agreement with Billy Gillispe and all that is left is for the Board of Regents to approve it in their meeting on Friday. Monday it will be offically announced. They will also be breaking ground on the new 22M Practice Facility that they promised him last year. Next Up Billy D and the UF AD! Terry
What I saw, a day or two ago, had Billy D to UK a done deal ..... well a deal that is all but done and will be wrapped as soon as UF is done with its 2006-07 men's basketball season. Oops, an update .... just read that a "sports journalist" affiliated with a USC-east web site was told "off the record" by UF's prez, Bernie Machen, that UF was going to sign Billy D to a "lifetime contract".
WOW!!! In a stunning turn of events, Creighton Coach Dana Altman who had just been introduced to the fans as the new coach, resigned and will return to Omaha to coach Creighton. He said it never felt right for him or his family. I wonder what made him take the Ark job and then walk away so soon?? Didn't Bobby Cremmins do the same thing? Also the last football coach I remmber doing that was Glen Mason, he left Kansas for one of the Georgia Jobs (Dawgs or Jackets I forget which) only stayed a couple of days and then returned to Kansas. But he didn't stay at Kansas that much longer and eventually moved to Minnesota where he was fired this year.
