LBs <r>Terry,<br/> <br/> I think ND has a good shot at most of these LBs and we NEED them. Filer and Fleming would be especially great . I really like the McDonald kid also Larry and the way he talks ND has an excellent chance. <br/> <br/> All the comments from the recruits thus far are very positive towards Corwin Brown. He seems to connect with them very fast. We may be on our way to making up for the lack of numbers on the D side of the ball in last years class in a hurry, and with high quality players. <E>8)</E></r>
Tim <t>"We may be on our way to making up for the lack of numbers on the D side of the ball in last years class in a hurry, and with high quality players"<br/> <br/> I know this would be a great relief to my wife as she is real tired of my rants each Saturday on our "crap through a goose" defense. LOL !!</t>
LOL! Despite what Carlos Zambrano says, I don't think they have the pitching to make it to the World Series. So....yes...I have not yet ordered my WS tickets. To paraphrase my "wait until the ink is dry" saying, as far as the Cubs chances to be the WS, the ink is running off the page.
I've already seen Anthony McDonald play on TV in several games. He's a middle LB for Sherman Oaks Notre Dame and he's about as good as we've got out here. He's a legit 6'3" with speed and plays sideline-to-sideline with an attitude. He could probably start for the Irish right away and every friggen team on the West Coast is after him. The big problem is his daddy played for USC, before going on to the NFL and its (traditionally) impossible to pry a Trojan legacy away from South Central. This would be like USC signing Golic's kid...its hard to imagine. If we get him, all hell will break loose downtown. Petey Carroll will go nuclear...
Irish TE Recruit <r>the Irish landed a big TE recruit today from Ohio, Kyle Rudolph from Cincinnati. I figured this kid was surely going to end up at Oh St. but hey, what do I know...not much evidently. Anyway he is 6'7" and 220lbs. Looks like everyone wanted him as he had offers from ND, Oh St., Michigan, Miami, Virginia, BC, Tenn, and L'Ville. Nice catch CW! <E>8)</E><br/> <br/> Rudolph has a great quote. He looks like a great kid for ND:<br/> <br/> Elder High School junior Kyle Rudolph will commit to attending the University of Notre Dame on a football scholarship at a press conference Wednesday, Elder announced today.<br/> <br/> Rudolph is a 6-foot-7, 230-pound tight end. Ohio High magazine, a prep sports publication distributed statewide, lists Rudolph as Cincinnati's top returning football prospect in the class of 2008.<br/> <br/> Rudolph had 33 receptions for 399 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He was All-Greater Catholic League, all-Enquirer honorable mention and second team Southwest District. He also has been GCL Player of the Year in basketball each of the past two years.<br/> <br/> Rudolph will commit in a press conference Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at Elder, the school said.<br/> <br/> Rudolph recently told The Enquirer he also was considering Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia.<br/> <br/> However, Rudolph said his "Junior Day" visit to Notre Dame earlier this month convinced him to pick the Irish.<br/> <br/> "The people there are similar to the people I went to Catholic grade school with Catholic high school with," Rudolph said. "It just makes sense. I've always rooted for them when I watched them on TV."<br/> <br/> Rudolph said he narrowed his choices to Notre Dame and Ohio State. He said he has been to OSU several times, including this past fall and winter.<br/> <br/> "I loved everything at Ohio State," Rudolph said. "I just felt I fit in better at Notre Dame."</r>
Here.... <t>Is one I didn't count on at all. If true looks to be a stud prospect for the offense. They will be loaded with top rated young TEs.<br/> <br/> I'm hoping for a commit soon from McDonald the LB from Cali.</t>
Wow that kid has some high quality video, It's so good I can't believe his school provided it. His parents must have bought a high end camera to tape his games. I don't see his name bandied about on ND sites though. There are a number of other LB's that the Irish are after. I don't think we are looking for a FB this year either.
Terry.... <t>He reminds of the old Nebraska fullbacks the defenses would forget about and then the guy is forty yards down the field with everyone trying to catch him.</t>
Terry Interesting info on Sweat. I read he was in Gainesville last week, had a good visit, and will be back in April for the Orange and Blue game. In the note on rivals, Sweat had ND, OSU, and UF all even. Scout article by Allan Wallace reports Sweat has UF and OSU as co-favorites. http://recruiting.scout.com/2/630318.html Of course, OSU fans on Scout's UF site claim Sweat is an OSU lock.
I don't think the Irish have a snowballs chance at Sweat. He's a great player but I don't think from the comments that I have read that he's really interested in the Irish. I don't think he liked how small the school was and what he percieved as the social life opportunities. When players start talking that way we rarely ever win the battle. Terry
The baseball recruiting is going amazingly well. On tonight's Dodger-Angels game, Vinny was talking about how proud Angels manager Mike Scioscia is that his son Matt is headed to Notre Dame... http://und.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/111406aag.html
The new Baseball coach needs to recruit like madman, the team this year is really not good and they have had injury problems. Lost their catcher and a couple of very good pitchers. He can really sell playing time. I doubt if they will even make .500 this year.
I don't think that's unusual for SEC teams is it Bill? It seems like SEC teams are late starters, by todays standards. Of course Texas is off the scale when it comes to that with 16 or more verbals right now.
Bill I've been a bit puzzled by the lack of public commits for UF's 2008 football class but I looked back at the last two classes and the first commits were in April. I wonder if UM asks the guys to hold off until after Spring practice.
Irish pickup a LB, Dave Posluszny, his brother Paul was a 2 time AA LB for Penn State...hopefully that is a good sign! I don't believe though that he ever recieved an offer from JoePa, not exactly sure why. I asked Andy in an email awhile ago, but I forget what he said. Maybe they are loaded with LB's and don't have room for him this year. But I'm glad we got him, from what I read he'll be a great fit for Corwin Browns 3-4 defense.
