Beating the Evil Empire from Ann Arbor. They even let UM have 6 guys against our 4 in the final 2 minutes to see if they beat the lads from South Bend. But they couldn't our Goal Keeper apparently has a 3rd eye and can see the puck from any angle!!
Did I hear correctly that our goalie had 31 saves? Great effort by the Irish icers. Let's do the same next fall on grass.
Dave Brown was outstanding in goal tonight. He was the tournament MVP. After falling behind 1-0 in the first the Irish scored in each of the last two periods. The hung on to protect the lead in the last 12 minutes. Unlike Brey teams, they played tough.
Congrats guys. An amazing season for the Irish. The last time I checked, ND and M were projected to play in the Midwest regionals so it looks a rematch next week.
Where is Corey? The cricket sounds on this thread are driving me insane. Here is the bracket for the NCAA hockey play-offs http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?page=07menshockeybracket ND, a well respected fellow-conference member with Michigan in the CCHA, has a great opportunity to get to the Frozen Four. Their first game in the regionals is against Alabama-Huntsville which will be a cakewalk. They then meet the winner of BU/MSU. My guess is that BU/MSU will beat the living snot out of each other for 60 minutes leaving the survivor ready to get feasted upon by the Irish. The Wolverines were sent to the same bracket as Minnesota and North Dakota. To those those who are hockey illiterate, M's draw is similar to drawing Florida AND Ohio State in a basketball regional playoff. I am surprised Terry has not jumped on the hockey bandwagon yet. No smack talk about California teams from Jo Co. No SEC uber alles songs from MCG. Just talk about old time hockey here ...like stories about Toe Blake
Alabama-Huntsville has a hockey team? Who knew. Isn't that where Corey lives these days?
not huntsville <t>The Irish are going to kill the Chargers. UAH really should be a lower level program. They are great for their conference and for what they do, but they figure to get mauled in the Tourney.... Huntsville is not far from here, but I currently reside in Florence..<br/> <br/> Sooo looking at the brackets..<br/> <br/> I really don't like playing BU anytime. A historically tough, tough program. I agree with Bobda that the Terriers and the Sparties are going to have a war in that 1st round game, still, the survivor figures to be a stiff test in the 2nd game for the Irish.<br/> <br/> As Bobda pointed out, his Wolvies are in the 'bracket of death.' If this was World Cup soccer, 3 countries would have been invaded and a Sheik would have declared an oil embargo by now... That's just terrible. What jackass put those teams all together in the first round.<br/> <br/> Did you see the other two brackets? From here on out, we shall refer to them as "Charmin One" and Charmin Two".. I don't like the 1 seeds in either of those brackets. I see New Hampshire and BC in Charmin One and Maine taking on Clarkson in Charmin Two. Seriously, were these brackets drawn by the Maple Syrup Society of New England??</t>
Irish escape with a 2 OT win. I suspect that Mike Brey gave them a pregame pep talk. Another performance like yesterday and it will be back to SB.
.. <t>the coach here at UAH had called his shot when the pairings were first announced. the local media was abuzz about how the Chargers are going to shock the hockey world...<br/> <br/> they weren't far off. i think it may be a case of ND never having won an NCAA finals game and UAH being a veteran team that played well down the stretch...not to mention, a good goalie like a good pitcher, can shut down a quality opponent and equal things out.<br/> <br/> how about that east division??</t>
Yeah it was a great season. Interesting how IrishCorey predicted that MSU would be the worn out and tired team comming into the championship game, while the Irish would be fresh. I wish he'd been right. How'd those guys from Alabama play so well, did the Irish take them lightly and pay the price? Proably so. But it was a great season, maybe the best in Irish history. Just ended too soon! Terry
... <t>The Sparties took care of the Terriers in the first round, in a game that figured to be closed. THe Irish went 2 OTs to beat a horsesh*t team with a sub-500 record.<br/> <br/> New Hampshire sure did blow a shot at a good run. I guess the Maple Syrup Society only has a shot at one of their lads getting in now</t>
