Texas coach Steve Sarkisian pushed back against claims that he is looking to leave the program, saying Wednesday that he is "not going anywhere." Sarkisian addressed reports about his potential departure, calling them "absolutely false and untrue." The fifth-year Longhorns coach said he normally doesn't address rumors about his future but felt a need because of the importance to both the team and university. Advertising
Don are both Smith and Tate going to miss the Rutgers game? Not a big deal vs RU, but against MICHIGAN at Ann Arbor big problem.
Both are quesional as of today. Coach Day has been very careful in his comments. Both are rehabbing and improving per Day. I agree this week would not be a problem but definitely a problen when we go to ann Arbor!
Michigan is pretty dinged up also. It looks like Haynes, our best RB, is out for the regular season and Marshall, also a quality RB, out for the Maryland game. Freshman running backs will likely start Saturday.
New twist in the Lane Kiffin saga, now the AD has said his future will be determined after the Egg Bowl? What does that mean? If he's leaving will he coach the CFP? If he's staying then I imagine a big contract extension will be announced. I can't even imagine a coach with a team capable of making a deep run at the title would walk away from his team, but then I don't think we've ever had a coach announce he is leaving to take a "better" job and continue to coach his old team. Just weird.
Ole Miss administrators didn't want the lingering uncertainty surrounding Kiffin's future to become too much of a distraction before the Rebels played their biggest rivalry game. They also wanted time to prepare for a possible transition to an interim coach before the CFP and a search for Kiffin's replacement if he decides to leave. The Rebels want to avoid a situation similar to former Ole Miss coach Tommy Tuberville's ugly departure to Auburn in 1998. While speculation about Tuberville's future heated up, the Rebels lost their last three games, including a 28-6 defeat against Mississippi State at home. After the regular season ended, Tuberville said on his weekly radio show, "They'll have to carry me out of here in a pine box." Tuberville left for Auburn two days later.
Certainly if Kiffin were staying, there would be no reason to wait until after the Egg Bowl to announce it.
I watched the last part of FSU/NCState last night and it was a crazy finish. FSU mishandled 2 consecutive punts to waste 2 good defensive stands. Then NCState with a 4th and 6 in the redzone instead of kicking the FG to make it so FSU would have to score a TD, they go for it and make it. I was going "what are you doing" as they hadn't made any plays in the last couple of minutes and if they don't make it then a FSU drive to a FG sends it to OT!! But they make it and game over.
I am not surprised but it looks like Smith and Tate are not available today vs Rutgers. I think we will see limited passing in this outing. Rutgers is weak on defense vs the rush and that should be in our favor. Time will tell.
I need to see how the Alabama running game does today. If we can't run against Eastern Illinois, then the rest of the season is really just window dressing. We shall see.
Beat Auburn and you're in the SEC Champ game which no matter the outcome both teams will be in the CFP. The committee has said that losing in a championship game doesn't impact the teams playoff hopes. That is true for the Big 10 and the SEC, not true for the B12 and ACC though
Might it not impact seeding, though? Maybe not cuz it seems as if they pop up pretty quickly after the conference championship games...maybe pre determined.
Might impact seeding for sure depending on how the games turn out. IU beats OSU probably, IU the new #1.
