Another name off the list. It's not Kiffin who has refused to make this type of statement. TEMPE, Ariz. -- Forget about Kenny Dillingham leaving Arizona State. Linked to numerous open jobs across the country, Dillingham shut down any thoughts of leaving his alma mater after the Sun Devils' 25-23 win over West Virginia on Saturday. "I was never leaving, I never said I was leaving -- this is home," Dillingham said. "You have to continue to push and my job running the program is to push and push and push until you can't push anymore. And if I didn't do that, I'd be cheating my players. I'd be cheating my staff. I'd be cheating the fan base. I'd be cheating everybody in the city. I'd be cheating the local businesses that feed off of us winning, and then they sell more beer. I'd be cheating everybody."
I can't imagine the "Big Cigars" are happy with the way the season has gone, esp if we finish with another loss, to A&M at home. Will Sark leave one way or the other, who knows. I'd be surprised but then I would think next year would be a year he'd better deliver at the min a CFP appearance.
OK Scott....I know you've stepped away from watching your Ags closely, BUT......what is your breaking point??? The point at which you can no longer stay away???? What is the game that will seal the deal for you to return....SEC Championship? Any CFP Playoff game? Home playoff game? Final Four? Natty? Do tell.....the world wants to know!!!
Haha... Great question Terry, but I think I'm out for good. (I dropped season Tix after 24 years) I will admit I check the scores in the evenings which is more than I was doing at the early part of the season and I've watched some of the highlight vids. At this point I'm not sure superstition will allow me to watch the playoffs, but that could be very hard not to peek at.
Having Lane as your coach reminds me of the story of a young man married to a very attractive woman of questionable fidelity. When leaving home for work in the morning, the hubby would make sure the toilet seat was down because if the seat was up when he got home at night, his worst suspicions would be confirmed.
The first shoe has dropped in the Coaching Carousel. I actually think it's a good hire for Va.Tech. Virginia Tech hired James Franklin to be its next head football coach, the school announced Monday. He will be formally introduced at a news conference Wednesday morning. "I'm honored and humbled to join the Hokie family," Franklin said in a statement. "My vision is simple: to restore unmatched excellence, to build something that lasts, and to serve this University, the Commonwealth of Virginia and our amazing fan base with honor, integrity, and passion. I look forward to getting to work with our players, our staff, and the entire Virginia Tech community." Franklin was originally owed a $49 million buyout after being fired by Penn State on Oct. 12, but part of his deal with the Hokies, sources confirmed to ESPN, includes a $9 million settlement from the Nittany Lions.
To this day there are those who believe it was true and that DeLoss Dodds killed the deal because Mack Brown, his good friend, didn't want Saban to follow him.
I don't blame them, but it certainly is an extra part to the drama. Not to mention what is the ultimatum? Tell us by the Egg Bowl or your fired? Is Lane Kiffin on the clock at Ole Miss? According to The Athletic, the Rebels have given the 50-year-old coach "an ultimatum to decide his future" before the Egg Bowl rivalry game on Friday, Nov. 28 against Mississippi State. The reported ultimatum comes a few days after the Rebels picked up their 10th win of the season with a 34-24 win over Florida, one of the current Power Four conference openings to which Kiffin has been linked since the Gators fired Billy Napier on Sunday, Oct. 19.
Gonna need BuckeyeT , being part of a big Penn State family, to explain to me why James Franklin would take 9M now rather than 49M over time? Is the present value of 9M that great compared to 49M over time? It's like that commercial I have seen by WW Wentworth or something like that who advertises "Cash Now"
I'd bet there's some kind of clause in his contract about working during the payout. Was probably more than 9, but less than 49.
His buyout from PSU likely contained a provision to seek employment in the future and reduced the amount of the buyout by monies earned in future employment. The buyout was to be paid in a yearly amount for X number of years. They perhaps subtracted the present value of the VT contract from the present value of PSU buyout to arrive at the lump sum settlement amount. For Franklin, the benefit is that any future increase in salary will not be used to offset the buyout amount.
The big PSU family is very grateful to VT for their assistance in furthering Franklin's career away from State College. My understanding of the contract is consistent with BobDa's excellent explanation as well as the fact that the $9MM from PSU will also be paid out over the next 6 years. fwiw, the present value of the $48MM over 6 years is approx $39MM per my calculations
